Re: Linux Mint 12 "Lisa" RC released!

It is not the job of moderators to interpret what is and isn't a bug, nor for that matter to monitor a particular thread. Well, that was very helpful. To be a little clearer: what is or isn’t the job of a moderator depends on what you tell the moderator to do. If you tell one person to monitor a th...

Re: Linux Mint 12 "Lisa" RC released!

The problem with this is that many things that 'should' be reported as bugs are discussed in the forum and fixes or workarounds suggested so the bugs never actually get reported. And that is very easily fixed: Get a moderator to monitor the official thread and make sure he or she collects and files...

Yes, once they are confirmed as bugs. But maybe I’m doing something wrong. That’s why a thread here might be a good idea. And an unofficial one is going to be started anyway if there is no official one.

Re: Linux Mint 12 "Lisa" RC released!

Can we perhaps have an official thread under “Releases & Announcements” for bugs in the LM12 RC?

Re: LM11 won’t remember password – ever

This is a behaviour that, AFAICT, has changed from LM10 to LM11—at least I’m seeing it on all installations of LM11, both 32-bit and 64-bit. Surely, somebody else must have wondered about this. And if it’s not a bug, there should be some official reason for, or even announcement concerning, the chan...

Re: LM11 won’t remember password – ever

It's not meant to store it, that's a security feature. A large part of why Linux is more secure than Windows is that we run as a regular user for all day to day stuff, with limited privileges, and jump up to root only when required. Well, it used to be that the feature was that the password was sto...

LM11 won’t remember password – ever

My Linux Mint 11 installations (both 32- and 64-bit versions) will not remember any passwords used to open Synaptic or the Update Manager. Usually, the password is stored for sth like 15 minutes. Is there a way to restore this behaviour?

Re: Wine. File not found.

This seems still to be an issue with the latest MintMenu. Can anyone confirm this? Is there a workaround that doesn’t involve installing the Gnome panel?

Re: Update Pack 3 Released!

Why doesn’t the Update Manager alter my APT sources automatically? We’re not confortable with updating your system configuration on your behalf. changing your repositories Then why not simply have the updater *ask* the user if he wants the updater to do this for him? Seems like the straightforward ...

Re: Update pack 4?

firefox, same as thunderbird, are mint pkgs, and packages.linuxmint is not mirrored hence not depending on the UP; as soon as Mint updates FF, we will get the update. Does that mean LMDE will get the Firefox update at the same time that LM12 (RC) is released, since that will surely include the late...

Re: [solved] Skype not updating to 2.2 out of Partners repo

Thanks to zerozero for pointing me to two things to solve this issue: 1. Different versions of a package may exist in different sources, which you can see and choose from in Synaptic by clicking on a package and going to Package/Force version… in the menu. 2. If anything in Ubuntu repos conflicts wi...

[solved] Skype not updating to 2.2 out of Partners repo

Hey guys, just a quick question: In a number of Mint installations, the only Skype version that Software Manager and Synaptic are offering me is 2.1.0.81 – although there should be 2.2.0.35 in the Canonical Partner repository, which is definitely active. Any ideas why that version isn’t showing up h...
