Re: cannot move files to thrash

The partition would be sda1. I looked under system folder with hidden file enabled. But could not find a .owner. Is this a sub directory.? If so, please tell me where to look.

Thanks

Re: Firefox slowing down DNS Look up

Hi, where should I create the new user account? On FF, the website or the OS? Except for the OS I do not use any accounts. Please clarify.

Re: Firefox slowing down DNS Look up

Thanks. I did what you said but it did not really seem to improve it. FF takes 3 minutes to load

http://www.rte.ie/radio1/saturday-with-claire-byrne/

while chrome does it in an instant.

I have a feeling it has to do with a bug linked with a recent update.

But not sure.

cannot move files to thrash

Hello, every time I want to move a file to thrash I get this message.

cannot move file to thrash, do you want to delete it immediately?

The file name file_name.pdf cannot be moved to thrash.
cancel, skip, delete.

I have plenty space on disk. I am using Mint 17.2.

Firefox slowing down DNS Look up

In recent weeks I am experiencing Firefox to be very slow looking up URL's whereas Chrome is just fine. I am wondering if any one else is experiencing the same thing. I am using 44.02. On Mint 17.2

Re: Files not copying to external drive

I repartitioned my SD card to NTFS and managed to solve the problem. Now i have to figure out a way to do it for my external drive without loosing data. If there is an equivalent "convert" command in Linux.?

Thank you to all for your input.

Re: Files not copying to external drive

Yes they are FAT 32. I know the total capacity of my SD drive is 16 gigs. My external disk drive has 300 gigs to spare. The file size I am trying to back up is 8.6 gigs. How do I check the size limit?

Files not copying to external drive

This is a strange problem. I want to backup a VHDX file to an external drive but half way through the copy process nemo throws up an error saying there is not enough space on the drive. The file is 8.6 gigs and I have 300 gig free space. The same thing happens when I use an SD drive as the destinati...

Re: Solid state drive optimization

I used Ron-N, link to trouble shoot the USB issue. https://ubuntugenius.wordpress.com/2010/05/07/fix-an-error-occurred-while-mounting-procbususb-bootup-error-after-upgrade-to-lucid/ It seems it has something to do with Virtualbox. Not sure exactly what. Maybe the fact that I have to use Virtualbox 4...

Re: Solid state drive optimization

It is very strange. When I cat out fstab I get the above. But when I open fstab in gedit I get the following. Notice the first has one extra line. # /etc/fstab: static file system information. # # Use 'blkid' to print the universally unique identifier for a # device; this may be used with UUID= as a...

Re: Solid state drive optimization

I disable it because it is annoying having to login each time I go for a coffee. Anyway, I have found the fix in screen saver. Thank you for your support and patience. Re: Solid state drive optimization

Thanks pjotr, can also comment on suspend? I don't understand why I cannot disable it. As mentioned I have already set power management to never. But it still goes into suspend after ten minutes of inactivity.

Re: Solid state drive optimization

OK, I reinstalled and configured FSTAB accordingly without discard. So far so good. I also disabled hibernate. However, I cannot disable suspend even though I set power management to never suspend when inactive. Never turn off screen when inactive. I only have suspend on when lid is closed. But when...

Re: Solid state drive optimization

Thank you all. I have a bit more confidence to go ahead with that now. I will let you know how I get on.

BTW is it advisable to add my disk drive to FSTAB. My idea is so that when I click on recent files on the menu tab it can remember the files I accessed last time used.

Re: Solid state drive optimization

OK PJOTR, you cannot back your thesis on discard. I am still willing to give your optimization tutorials another try even though I have tried it once before. I re-read it with fresh eyes and I think it is worth another try. Regarding what your say about the nvidia drivers, yes, I have been using 340...
