Re: HP Laserjet 1018

Thanks Pjotr, I am going to have to set aside a couple of days for this. If you are sure Peppermint will support my nvidia, I would rather save time and not bother trying Mint XFCE.

Please let me know.

Re: HP Laserjet 1018

Hi Pjotr, I followed your instructions to the letter but the driver is still not working. Keep getting messages that printer is NOT connected. But lsusb command says it is listed. I have recorded the process if want to look at what I did. I recently had to upgrade my hard drive and had an opportunit...

HP Laserjet 1018

Hello, before anyone point me to the other thread on HPLIP please be informed that I have done that and worn the T-shirt several times. My system in Mint 17.3. 64 bit I have installed new physical USB ports. I have also checked out my USB cable. Instead of going into a long story here, I thought the...

Re: HP come up trumps for Linux Printing

I have used that link but installing hplip for my HP Laserjet 1018 has been a total nightmare. I used have a far better support for my Samsung M-1675. I have created a separate thread for my experience if you care to read it.

Re: nvidia driver update

Thanks so much for all your patience and help thus far. Unfortunately your last suggestions were all based on the assumption I can get to a terminal, which I cannot. All that I can do when I get to the black screen is to cancel, shutdown, restart or login. I have backed my system up and in a few hou...

Re: nvidia driver update

Hi Phil, lets start with the nvidia solutions specified above. Link one does not apply since I am using 17.2. The second link take me to the menu option described earlier. Namely, that in the menu described option one "resume" takes me back to the black screen. Option four failsafeX does not exist. ...

Re: nvidia driver update

thanks very much.I don't know why for some reason I missed this reply until now. Did you get my question regarding HPLIP? I always experienced problems installing this on a fresh system. And going by documents Mint 17.x is supposed to have HPLIP by default. Sure it recognizes and installs the driver...

Re: If you are having problems with Mint18 Cinnamon and Nvidia drivers read this

Hi folks, I have been reading this thread to see if it can solve my black screen problem which I am certain was caused by update manger installing something for my nvidia GTX 280 M. I am still using Mint 17.2. In my case when I get the black screen I can use ctrl+alt+backspace. This gives me the opt...

Re: nvidia driver update

Hi Phil, as you probably have red from my last PM to you is that I have tried to purge the nvidia drivers. In fact I did not need to use sudo as the only option to get into a terminal was a root terminal. So I selected advanced then recovery mode. I took some time to detect either hardware or driver...

Re: Firefox slowing down DNS Look up

Just to update the status on this issue. Creating a new user did not help much. This is because the new user (even though with full admin rights) does not have access to the resources such as my second internal drive. I was not able to import my bookmarks into the new environment in order to test fi...

Re: cloud drive recommendations

I have heard a two providers (who's names I have forgotten) do encrypt during transfer. Obviously that would mean a speed over head but should not be an issue for those who have fast connections. And it's not just big brother I would be worried about. There are a whole load of scammers who depend on...

Re: cloud drive recommendations

Thank you to all for your helpful feedback especially phd21. I think I will go for pCloud. I have already used Google drive and found it too basic for backing up my files. I could not find any Linux client to help my sync files. Their customer service confirmed that they do not really support Linux ...
