Re: Thunderbird 38.2 has stopped showing notification

Hi Cosmo- I think your idea has potential IF a fix is not soon forthcoming. But I am optomistic that there will be a quick patch. Both FF and TB are level 1 priority applications in all the Mint editions. Of course the Mint team has to adapt to the Ubuntu changes, so there is always a lag time in fi...

Re: Thunderbird 38.2 has stopped showing notification

The bad news: There seems to be a bug in the repository version. At now I do not see anything you can do about it. Nice work Cosmo, and thank you! Just to clarify the symptoms of this bug for other posters here: On my system - LM17.0 (AMD 64) Cinnamon, T-bird 38.2 (no Lightning ext), I have no TB d...

Re: Thunderbird 38.2 has stopped showing notification

I am quite sure, tat if you would create a new TB-profile, you would get Lightning there. Hmmm... interesting... I forgot to look when I first tried your suggestion... so I thought I would try again, with new .thunderbird folder, and look for Lighning 4.02 as built into TB 38.2... I don't think it ...

Re: Thunderbird 38.2 has stopped showing notification

You must be in error in 2 aspects: TB 38.1 did never exist in the official repositories. Maybe you downloaded it from Mozilla. Lightning ships with TB since TB 38, so you get it automatically. You get an offer to disable it, if it was not previously installed. Hi Cosmo- Thanks for the response. On ...

Re: Thunderbird 38.2 has stopped showing notification

Just wanted to chime in on this one: Having the same issue as the OP here. LM 17.0 Cinnamon 64bit Thunderbird 38.2 Desktop Notifications from Banshee, FireFox 40.03, et al work fine as always. Can't be certain, but I think this T-bird behavior might have started with version 38.1. Also, about the sa...

Re: Bios Clock Won't Keep Local Time??

It is accessible, using interrupts . I used to do this for fun when I wrote DOS programs in [Turbo] C. From the above wiki link: However, there are also serious security reasons not to switch to real mode, and the BIOS code has limitations both in functionality and speed that motivate operating sys...

Re: Bios Clock Won't Keep Local Time??

"...and 1 for All!!" Thanks so much. That was an interesting thread and it was an aspect of Linux to which I had not yet been exposed. OK... so in a broader context, it would seem that NTP servers have a port directly into a computer's bios. It doesn't matter if the bios is programmed for loc...

Bios Clock Won't Keep Local Time?? [SOLVED]

Hey there folks- I am a relative newbie to Linux. The last couple of years with Linux (the Mints in particular) have been great. I am running Mint17 Cinnamon AMD64 on an old Dell desktop. Runs great. But I have noticed in my bios setup that the clock will not keep my local time. I can change it to m...

but if I am not mistaken the "extended" partition is the "container" that holds what ever logical partitions you want. Primary partitions should be a single "traditional" partition... Actually, Primaries can reside within an Extended. Here is what I am running on now... http://i863.removed/albums/a...

Caja vs Nemo: "Move to" Feature...

Hi everyone- I have been a LM Cinnamon devote' for a couple of years, but I have been enjoying the new version of LM 17 Mate. One thing though, the Mate file manager, Caja, does not seem to have a rather nifty feature found in Nemo: In Nemo, right click a file and under the "Move to..." contextual w...

How odd... problem was solved, but now has re-occurred. Just confirmed it on my Mint16 Petra 64bit.

Re: Desktop Background Images in Cinnamon

Interesting... just tried to install a few of the old Mint-background pkgs via Software Mgr, but it errors out saying it cannot be installed. I wonder if Mint16 is using a different directory than the pkgs are programmed to install to. Oh well. No major matter. Just a curiosity. Thanks to all for th...

Re: Desktop Background Images in Cinnamon

Hi Tommy- Thanks for your reply. I do understand the simplicity of bringing images into the Backgrounds panel in Cinnamon's System Settings. I have done that successfully. What I am asking has to do with applying backround image packages from a prior version of Cinnamon via apt-get or via the Softwa...

Re: Desktop Background Images in Cinnamon

Thanks AustinT.
I guess I was speaking more to the Background pkgs of prior Mint versions, bringing them into Mint16. I like some of the images within the prior distros of Mint.

Desktop Background Images in Cinnamon

Hi everyone- Linux Mint 16 Cinnamon 64bit I just had a quick question regarding what is allowable in bringing images into Mint 16 Cinnamon for desktop backgrounds. In using Mint's Software Manager , I can see the various packages containing the backgrounds that shipped with each previous Cinnamon di...

Re: Mint16 Getting KDE packages in Update???

DING DING DING!!!

We have a winner! :)

I ran the sudo autoremove and it eliminated 134 items.

Now when I run Update Mgr, I get a total of 9 items, none of which appear to be KDE related.

Fraoch, you are the MAN!

Thanks for the schooling! Hope our convo will help others here.

Re: Mint16 Getting KDE packages in Update???

Yes, I agree. Probably harmless to install them. I have to confess that I am probably obsessive about keeping the system unbloated. In most cases shown, there is already a .lib file and MintUpdate just wants to sync with the Saucy repository. So it would seem that: 1) these pkgs were part of the ori...
