So any of those actually work? They seem to bum out on me whenever I run them.

Re: reverting to Firefox 28

Look in /var/cache/apt/[somefolder] and you should be able to find the debian file for FireFox 28. Install that.

Then you'll need to blacklist firefox in apt so it doesn't update.

Note: Never used LMDE, so I'm not sure of the exact details, but that's pretty much how you do it.

Re: NVIDIA graphics cards and Linux Mint

So I've had a look at your processor model: Intel i7-3770K

Did you know this comes with an Intel HD Graphics 4000? Have you tried disabled this (integrated card) in BIOS, so you just use the nVidia Graphics card?

Re: NVIDIA graphics cards and Linux Mint

I am trying to install Linux Mint 16 (Mate desktop) on a brand new Dell XPS 8700 (8Gb RAM, Intel i7 processor) with an NVIDIA GeForce GT635 but am making no progress whatsoever. Question: What's the output of the following command? inxi -Gx I'm looking at the CPU and wondering whether it also has a...

I've known this UI update was coming since Firefox 27 was marked stable (because I was using Aurora at the time).

Re: Wayland or Mir?

I would say that since MATE is working on Wayland support and Cinnamon will probably port Wayland support from GNOME3, as well as it being easier to patch graphics drivers to run with Wayland, I would say Wayland. The official stance is that they will continue to use X until they've had time to test...

Re: New amd driver borked my system

I can't think of anything...

Have you tried adding the following to the kernel parameters and then fix your system?

Code: Select all

noomodeset
Failing that, there's the ever brilliant kernel parameter that should allow you to fix your system in terminal:

Code: Select all

runlevel = 3

What graphics card are you using?

Where are you installing/get the driver from? Are there any instructions you used?

Re: No grub menu after Win 8 update

It is known that updates for Windows 8 have overwritten the current bootloader settings in dual-boot settings, and in some occasions set the UEFI mode to UEFI.

If you want bleeding edge releases, then go to ArchLinux, Gentoo or Fedora Staging.

Also, you should be moaning at the Ubuntu developers, not us.

Re: removing home folder encryption by upgrading linux mint

BTW, you can't upgrade from 13 to 17 (at least it isn't officially support or recommended)--you have to reinstall. Unless you have your home folder on a separate partition, that means you have to move the date elsewhere temporarily anyway. (But yes, you can also before installation create a new par...

You first and third posts happened because you haven't updated your repository information before upgrading packages.

Don't know about the second, because I don't use LMDE.
