That means, the driver, which created the PostScipt error message on the printout, is the PostScript driver? What type of document were you trying to print?

Re: HP Laserjet 4M Plus printer ~ need help to install

PostScript is installed. Please try the PostScript driver for the Laserjet. Simply set up a new printer, pick the same IP address as before but choose the PostScript driver instead and pick a somewhat different printer name. Then you can test both the PCL and the PostScript driver for your printer. ...

Re: HP Laserjet 4M Plus printer ~ need help to install

Firstly, how many LAN ports does the modem have or do you use a separate switch? Next, have you tried to configure the printer by right clicking on the printer icon and choosing "Preferences"? When you did send the test page to the printer, what was on the status display of the printer above the con...

Re: HP Laserjet 4M Plus printer ~ need help to install

Ok, 192.168.1.1 is the IP of your modem and 192.168.1.2 is the IP of your PC. Are there any other devices besides the printer which you have connected to your network? If no, please change your printers network settings to the following and try the printer setup again: IP address: 192.168.1.10 subne...

Re: HP Laserjet 4M Plus printer ~ need help to install

Could you please post the output of the nmap command sudo nmap -sP -oG- 192.168.1.255/24 . It should list all devices connected to your network and I would like to see if there are any oddities in your network setup. BTW, the nmap command has nothing to do with setting up your printer yet. It will s...

Ok, what else does the test page list? Does it show addresses for Standard Gateway and Subnet Mask? Can you ping IP 192.168.1.1 and do you get a response? Just run the command

ping 192.168.1.1
in a terminal. To quit please press Ctrl and c.

Re: HP Laserjet 4M Plus printer ~ need help to install

Hi karlchen, I was assuming Jlvs2run is not very familiar with IP in general. Therefore I was trying to determine which IP range his network is using to help him along with picking the right IP and configuring the printers network card. Nevertheless, on these old LaserJets you need to print a test p...

Re: HP Laserjet 4M Plus printer ~ need help to install

I suspect your printers IP address is not configured properly. My LaserJet 4 Plus worked best with a fixed (static) IP address set through the printers configuration menu. Please follow the following steps to set up your printers network card: http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=...

Put the hard drive to an another computer and format or install using that computer. Re: Locked out of HD

Your hard drive is locked at the BIOS level (administrator password for BIOS protection and/or HDD protection). The password is usually stored in the HDDs firmware. Without the password you can not access the HDD, neither in the present laptop nor if you move it to a different system. If the passwor...

Re: ATI X1250 / rs600m - will it ever work?

[...] Isn´t there any OS which still works fine with the old proprietary driver - or is there any way to get the good driver back on a actual Mint? That depends on your laptops/PCs manufacturer. Usually they offer proper drivers for Win XP sometimes even Win Vista. At least for my HP notebook with ...

Re: Linux making things easier

I like your "just". General user after boot gets no GUI. How many of them can repare it from command line? True, but in my case it wasn't even necessary. The system came up with full GUI using the nouveau drivers and all I had to do was to launch "Additional Drivers" to install the proper Nvidia dr...

Re: ATI X1250 / rs600m - will it ever work?

Well I'm about to throw the lot through the window, the 6200 doesn't work with any of the four drivers given in the driver manager either - oh joy!. Still at least mint comes up with some options for the 6200 unlike the 1550. Am I missing something?. Select a driver, reboot. ???. Have you tried "Ad...
