Re: when lmde 2 (betsy) will be available?

Upgrading LMDE to the current Jessie brings some major issues. That's why kurotsogi suggested (or should I say demanded?) UP9 before the move to Jessie. But I think that's irrelevant by now. People who want a rolling release have already left LMDE and the other users simply don't seem to care. Stab...

Even though I don't use Cinnamon I would consider this step somewhat drastic to avoid a 10 to 20 second delay on shutdown :D

Re: when lmde 2 (betsy) will be available?

user currently can't directly move into debian testing. You can and you don't have to wait. Just install Debian Testing on your system and get rid of LMDE at the same time :D LMDE is useless anyway if what you want is Debian Testing. I'm sure that this is easier, cleaner and quicker than moving fro...

Re: Update failed - in fallback mode

@karlchen I think moving this thread to LMDE was wrong. squeeze is Debian stable. LMDE is based on testing, that's jessie. I have not run LMDE for weeks, but I don't suppose there was an update, there hardly ever is  (not counting firefox which is unlikely to crash Cinnamon without having this...

1) Duplicate entries. I did all what the tutorial said (delete the preferences file and edit de sources with the 4 lines in the post) but I get this when I type apt-get update: W: Duplicate sources.list entry http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian/main amd64 Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/packages.lin...

Are you sure that you want to install LMDE right now?
LMDE does no longer roll but is move to Debian Stable in spring 2015.

Re: when lmde 2 (betsy) will be available?

The majority of people use Windows, do they really feel 1st-class? Sarcasm or missing the point? What do you think the smiley is for? On a serious note, LMDE is becoming outdated. The last updates were when? I know it is not as popular but it should not be an unequal thing. Qiana users can w...

Re: when lmde 2 (betsy) will be available?

I haven't had any problems with any upgrades yet. I don't think I'll have any in the future. We'll see, "When it is Ready". Why are you so negative? I didn't have grave problems either, but lots of people had judging from comments on linuxmintusers.de. I'm not being negative, it is just my opinion ...

Sure, but installing 17.1 you would note problems right at the install. That's hardly time lost.
Installing LMDE 201403 might work fine but give trouble with the big upgrade in spring 2015 on a fully installed system. That's more time lost to fix or install anew.

Re: when lmde 2 (betsy) will be available?

Does it still pay off to install LMDE 201403? Will I be able to upgrade directly from 201403 to LMDE 2 or will I have to do a complete fresh install? (If so, I would rather install Mint 17 Qiana.) The claimed advantage of stability of future LMDE 2 being based on Debian Stable surely does not count...

Re: Access to unstable debian packages

For safety reasons I would first add unstable to pinning-preferences. There should be a file called /etc/apt/preferences or /etc/apt/preferences.d/preferences . Add the following lines to this file Package: * Pin: release a=unstable Pin-Priority: 300 The priority (300 in my example) should be lower ...

Re: Access to unstable debian packages

So apparently there is no way to forbid an update of all installed packages with potential new ones proposed by debian/sid ? Of course there is. Sorry, your thread sounded as if you already knew and only wanted to know the line for the repository. That's a complex thing. There are different possibi...

Re: Access to unstable debian packages

Depending on what you want you should add the first or all of the following lines: deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ sid main contrib non-free deb-src http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ sid main contrib non-free deb http://www.deb-multimedia.org sid main non-free Another possibility would be to add a tex...

Erstens gibt es schon länger kein LMDE mit KDE mehr (wurde quasi durch SolydK ersetzt) und zweitens ist LMDE de facto tot.

Re: LMDE Mate panels disappear

There will be no more update packs for the current version of LMDE. LMDE 2 will be based on Debian Stable (see http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2671 ) and will neither be rolling nor semi-rolling (unless you count Debian's move every other year). LMDE 2 was first announced for November 2014 (see http://...

Re: LMDE Mate panels disappear

If the panels give trouble try

Code: Select all

pkill mate-panel
This restarts the panel(s).
If the background goes black and the icons disappear this seems to me a crash of caja (frequent in MATE 1.6, less so in MATE 1.8, which as current LMDE is not really maintained anymore will come with LMDE 2 God knows when).

Re: Software Sources only lists servers and not individual P

1. You mix up the tool to choose the fastest LMDE mirror with the sources list (one or various text files). As far as I remember (haven't used LMDE for some weeks now) you can manipulate sources list with mintupdate and synaptic, if not you can always use a text editor. If you manually add a reposit...
