Re: Device manager drivers versus straight from AMD or Nvidi

Thank you for your response kc1di. But I'm not asking if the proprietary drivers work at all. I know they work to one extant or another depending on what graphics card you have. What I'm asking is whether the proprietary driver versions that the device manager in Mint installs, which are usually sev...

Device manager drivers versus straight from AMD or [SOLVED]

Hello People, :) Is using the proprietary graphics drivers from the LinuxMint built in device manager a convenience, or is it there because those are the graphic driver versions that are most compatible and stable with that version of LinuxMint? Some follow up explanation: So I currently have an AMD...

Re: Creating subfolders in the Cinnamon menu don't show - LM

Hello xenopeek, Thank you for your reply. I had no idea that Cinnamon and Mate menu didn't support subfolders. This seems like quite an over sight. Things are bound to get a bit messy in the menu when lots of applications are installed. It would seem that if this was the intended behavior, then the ...

Re: Ext4 partition on external backup hard drive - LM16

Hello altair4, My apologies in being late to reply. I forgot to subscribe to this thread. Your solution worked beautifully! Thank you so much! I was not expecting for all users to be all to read, write, execute after only specifying one user account in the terminal command. But today I learned that ...

Creating subfolders in the Cinnamon menu don't show - SOLVED

So I've discovered in LinuxMint 16 64bit Cinnamon, that when you create subfolders in the existing folders of the menu, via the menu editor (alacarte?), that the subfolders and the launchers within it do not show within the menu. And it appears in some circumstances, the example being my WINE folder...

Ext4 partition on external backup hard drive - LM16 - SOLVED

So I recently acquired an external hard drive for data storage and data backup purposes. And I formated it by booting to and using a recent live Gparted CD. I created a small Ext3 partition for booting and installation of live Linux distributions, then I split the rest of the space equally between a...

Re: Sharing a data folder between user accounts - LM16

Thank you for all of your responses. I opted to go for altair4's bindfs solution which worked perfectly. The reason why is because I did not want to create a separate partition, and I did not want this shared folder to reside in the home folder of any particular user.

Sharing a data folder between user accounts - LM16 - SOLVED

Hello, :)

I'm wondering what is the easiest way to share a data folder between user accounts of the same Mint install that allows read & write privileges for all user accounts? And where this folder should be placed on the hard drive?

I'm currently using LinuxMint 16 64bit Cinnamon.

Thank you.

Re: Installing software for/in other user accounts - [SOLVED

And a happy new year to you to karichen! :) Thank you for being so gracious about all of this. About User_B's password: Instead of resetting it to nothing, you might - from the root account - assign a trivial password to User_B, e.g. something like Gambler. Thank you for this suggestion and the term...

Re: Installing software for/in other user accounts - [SOLVED

I'd also like to add, that once games are installed, it's easy enough to remove the account from the Sudo group, or just change it to a standard account type which does the same thing as far as I can tell. Although, I don't see a way to remove the password from the account for easy logging in of gue...

Re: Installing software for/in other user accounts - LM 15

@edzell - My reading of the original post says grungy_me would prefer the game to run under only user _B's account but if that's not possible would settle for having it run for all users. This is correct. Although if having to settle for installing for all users, the games by my choice would only be...

Re: Installing software for/in other user accounts - LM 15

Hello karlchen, Thank you for your reply. Surprisingly from what I've seen so far there has been absolutely no installation documentation either in humble bundle's support section and no readme files that guide the user either. That being said, I feel like you did not understand the gist of my quest...

Installing software for/in other user accounts - [SOLVED]

Hello LinuxMint forum community, So even though I've been using Linux for years now, this issue has stumped me. Hence I finally registered here even though I've been using LinuxMint since version 8 and was always able to figure out any problem or learn how to do something myself or through searching...
