Re: HP plug-in fails Linx Mint 17<Solved>

I'm glad you figured it out. I had no idea a piece of proprietary code is needed from HP for their printers. My prior printer which was an HP LJ1100 never needed anything like that. So maybe it is the newer printers. My Brother laser printer just uses whatever code/drivers comes with LinuxMint.

Re: Graphic disappointment

@linuxrev

So why didn't you post here looking for solutions to these problems while you still had LinuxMint 17 installed? People here can't necessarily help you if you don't have the system running to try solutions on and give them more information via Terminal code output.

Re: Video and audio card issues with DELL poweredge 1420

@Fabry I've never dealt with using Matrox Systems graphics cards in Linux. So my advice is somewhat speculation, guessing and not direct experience. You might want to wait and see if anyone else here speaks up about this problem of yours that can give better advice. From the research I've done both ...

Re: HP plug-in fails Linx Mint 17

Are you saying that you are not installing your printer driver from the "Printers" program at: Start menu---> System---> Printers? This is the way I've installed printer drivers successfully for years in LinuxMint. Even though I do not have an HP printer, I notice in Synaptic Package Manager that HP...

@222fbj

Right click on the Update Manager in the panel and select Preferences. In the "Levels" tab check mark "Always select and trust security updates", then click on the "Apply" button.

Re: LinuxMint 17 taken down by divx malware.

Ok, this was a false alarm. Sorry about that everyone. The real problem is a hard drive that is slowly failing on this computer. I was able to test it using the "Disks" program in the Accessories folder, and then in that program in the upper right hand corner is a button with a sprocket icon on it t...

Re: New folder shortcut for Thunar

@Camillus

Can you be more specific about what you are asking for? I notice in Thunar that I can single right mouse click in the right hand pane and a sub-menu comes up where I have the option to "Create Folder...". I can also goto the "File" menu and access this.

@222fbj

This is only a guess on my part. If you are not doing the level 4 and 5 security updates in the Update Manager, then perhaps this is the result?

Re: Multiple graphics cards

@zsoca8711 I think that there is some misunderstanding going on here. PatH57 was not asking you to goto AMD's web site and download a driver, that's much more complicated and unnecessary. If you go into your start menu, then into the System folder, there is a program called "Driver Manager". Run thi...

Re: Radeon Driver installation not working in Cinnamon 64-bi

@Hapi The open source AMD graphic driver is installed by default when you installed LinuxMint. And for your two AMD graphic cards that show for your hardware specifications, the HD 3200 and HD 4650, neither of those are supported by the AMD proprietary graphics driver any more. The oldest card they ...

Re: Install Nvidia proprietary drivers in LinuxMint UPDATED

Hey folks, While user roblm helped me big time to install the Nvidia proprietary graphic driver, which I'm so grateful for, I noticed that afterwards I had a screen tearing problem and there was no setting in the "Nvidia X Server Settings" program to correct this. If you are having this problem, or ...

Re: Replacing AMD with Nvidia graphics card - LM17 XFCE.[SOL

As an additional update, I notice that the two games I had issues with when I had the AMD HD 5770 graphics card is no longer an issue. Papo & Yo would play at around 20 frames per second no matter how I set the game screen resolution and graphical settings. And Brutal Legend was just really laggy. B...

Re: LM-17 Cinnamon is not good for gamers.

@Ranthe I would seriously doubt it would make a difference. The issues I had with the Cinnamon desktop environment were that a lot games just would not run at all. The difference in FPS between Vista and LinuxMint 17 with that game is likely the open source AMD graphics driver in Linux that you are ...

Thank you for the additional explanations! I think in this case I'd rather install the latest stable driver downloaded right from Nvidia's web site. Thank you again for all of your help and I hope these posts also help other people with similar problems.

Have you run Memtest on this computer for many hours to see if the RAM is ok with no errors? Did you also check the md5sum of the LinuxMint ISO download, and then check the media integrity when booting up the live image? Lastly, I got a lot of segmentation fault errors with Linux games in LinuxMint ...

Re: LinuxMint 17 taken down by divx malware.

@jimallyn I agree. And I think he learned his lesson after I explained to him not to do this and why. I'm guessing because he is less familiar with Linux having come from Windows usage for years and years, perhaps he thought LinuxMint really did need a plugin to watch the video. As he told me that ...
