Re: HowTo: Multi User Shared Local Directory

Just for anyone else that needs to know, I just confirmed that the bindfs solution works on LinuxMint 17 64-bit XFCE.

Re: Install Nvidia proprietary drivers in LinuxMint UPDATED

@roblm I re-installed the Nvidia driver and answered yes to everything, re-booted and then re-tested the games and everything appears to run fine. Thank you for the additional information and steps to get this done on top of answering my questions. Since you had to switch to Recovery Mode, then you ...

Re: Random crashes

Have you run Memtest on this computer for many hours to see if the RAM is ok with no errors? Did you also check the md5sum of the LinuxMint ISO download, and then check the media integrity when booting up the live image? Lastly, I got a lot of segmentation fault errors with Linux games in LinuxMint ...

Re: LinuxMint 17 taken down by divx malware.

@jimallyn I agree. And I think he learned his lesson after I explained to him not to do this and why. I'm guessing because he is less familiar with Linux having come from Windows usage for years and years, perhaps he thought LinuxMint really did need a plugin to watch the video. As he told me that ...

LinuxMint 17 taken down by divx malware. [SOLVED]

Folks, I just want to make you aware that LinuxMint can be damaged by malware and possibly have data stolen from it. So I installed LinuxMint 17 64-bit XFCE on a friends older laptop. It runs great on it by the way for older dual core Intel CPU and GPU with 4GB of RAM. Anyways, so here's what I've b...

Re: Replacing AMD with Nvidia graphics card - LM17 XFCE.

@jimallyn So I ended up buying a Nvidia GTX 750. In hindsight I believe you were correct in your response for the most part. The only problem being that the Nvidia drivers included with LinuxMint 17 in the driver manager are not compatible with the Nvidia 700 series of graphics cards. So I needed th...

Re: Install Nvidia proprietary drivers in LinuxMint UPDATED

@roblm Thank you so much! You are amazing and awesome! Your solution worked for me. I installed libc6-dev via Synaptic Package Manager, then I used your updated 4-20-14 instructions after booting into recovery mode and choosing “root - drop to root shell prompt” and issuing that mount command. Durin...

Re: Install Nvidia proprietary drivers in LinuxMint UPDATED

Some feedback for user kk5000, perhaps you should change the title to reflect the version of LinuxMint that this guide is for rather than showing a year. I'm using a recently new and clean install of LinuxMint 17 64-bit XFCE with all updates except levels 4 and 5 applied. I have an Nvidia GTX 750 cu...

Re: LM-17 Cinnamon is not good for gamers.

@phill1978 - Thanks for this post that gives a possible work around while still using Cinnamon. I had also read things after I switched to XFCE that suggested that disabling the compositor in Cinnamon could fix this problem. But at that point I was done with Cinnamon so I haven't been able to test t...

Re: problem with catalyst driver

That's bizarre! So it's something to do with Warzone2100. I wonder if un-installing and then reinstalling the beta 14.6 AMD graphics driver would have worked too? Perhaps this is something to bring to the attention of the Warzone2100 developers?

Re: Mint 17 won't show second display

So here's the thing about Linux operating systems... You do need to buy hardware that is compatible with it just like any other operating system. This is not compatible with Linux. It might be in the future, but I wouldn't count on it. Buy a device that is compatible with Linux. http://www.newegg.co...

Thanks for posting this information here. Great confirmation of problems with Cinnamon under different hardware. KDE certainly seems to be a good alternative for gamers if they don't like XFCE.

Re: LM-17 Cinnamon is not good for gamers.

I just confirmed yesterday that this problem is not isolated to computers with AMD graphics cards in them. My friend's laptop is an older Intel Core 2 Duo with integrated Intel graphics on the motherboard that I had previously installed LinuxMint 17 64-bit Cinnamon. I started installing the Roller C...

@oscarsolcio

Yeah, I agree with PaTH57. If you can't get a screen to show with the external monitor port, then it is likely the graphics card that is defective, not the ribbon cable.

@Blackout STi

Hurray! :)

Don't worry about the version discrepancies. It makes no sense to me either, but that's the way it is. The bottom line is that it fixes your problem.

Please alter your post title so it shows [SOLVED] in it.

Re: problem with catalyst driver

@rogerdv You could try re-installing LinuxMint 17 Cinnamon and not applying the level 4 and 5 updates, then installing the beta 14.6 graphics driver and see where it gets you. I never found a fix to the problem you were having, but then again, I didn't diagnose it the way you did. I just installed t...

Re: Tearing w/ XOrg Drivers / XBMC "Crashes" with Proprietar

@Blackout STi No, I had issue with the default XOrg driver causing all kinds of screen tearing in videos and games. Never with the proprietary AMD driver with tear free desktop enabled. I'll give you instructions right here about how to install it. It's very easy. The instructions from AMD's web sit...

Re: Mint 17 Firefox fullscreen video tearing (AMD HD7850)

@mVentus Ok, good information to know. Thank you. My next advice is that you ditch the Cinnamon desktop and try installing the XFCE or KDE version of LinuxMint and either using the AMD proprietary drivers from the Driver Manager, or the beta 14.6 version. Do not use the 14.4 version which is not com...

Re: vertical stripes on screen with Gforce 8400M-GT

@oscarsoicio User PatH57's advice only diagnoses the graphics card. I've also seen this sort of problem show up when the internal ribbon cable from the graphics card to the built in monitor partially fails. Ultimately you'll have to bring it to someone to repair. If this device is out of warranty, f...
