Re: Can I Install Cinnamon Then Add Mate?

The previous release, as well as the Debian edition have both MATE and Cinnamon installed by default. I'm not sure why they changed that in 13. Probably to save space with the assumption that most Minty 'nixers have already decided which they prefer. If you haven't decided it should be okay to insta...

Re: How would you make a Mint 10 OEM image with all updates?

Yea 13 is still a bit rough around the edges, but it's an LTS release (Long Term Support) so it will be supported for 5 years instead of the usual 1.5.

Mint-9 was LTS also, and it will be supported 'til April 2013 (same end date as Mint-12). Might be friendlier to older hardware.

Re: How would you make a Mint 10 OEM image with all updates?

Just an FYI, in case you don't know. Support for Mint-10 ended a few months ago (April). Your post sounded like you might be deploying it in some kind of working environment, and for that you should probably go with a version that is still supported. Not that I don't understand your desire to go wit...

Re: Is it true? LMDE on Ipad?

There are Linux tablets available. Current ones are pricey (based on desktop hardware), but affordable ones are nearly here . The current desktop GUI of MATE, Cinnamon & Xfce are not really suitable for a touchscreen tablet. Standard computer operating systems are difficult to use on a tablet withou...

Re: Solved: Bluetooth mouse will not pair or function

I have had some issues getting Bluetooth to work on several different laptops with Mint 13.0 Mate and Cinnamon. Through experimentation I have been able to get the following Bluetooth devices to work: Targus Bluetooth Mouse Sony Stereo Headphones Plantronics Mono Headset I also could not get anythi...

Solved: Bluetooth mouse will not pair or function

See EDIT below... Bluetooth seems to be on, and it detects my Bluetooth mouse, but no matter what I try I cannot get it to work. It keeps asking for authentication, and even though I select "Always accept" and set the mouse as "Trusted" it just keeps asking. All attempts to "pair" fail, and setup wi...

Re: Touchpad Does Not Scroll

Thank you! Those 2 additional lines fixed the touchpad issues on my Acer Netbook. It's an AO532h with Synaptics pad. It has multi-touch 2-finger scrolling, which did work, but it also has a separate strip on the side for vertical scroll, and that did not work. Also tap to click wasn't working. Now t...

Re: Can't Hibernate

...also, for a laptop with 8gb ram 12 gb swap is too much. u can shrink it to 4gb. :D Not if he wants to hibernate. As I understand it, a snapshot of system memory is rolled out to disk, along with some additional info to allow the system to roll the image back into memory and resume where it left ...

... I also used the "boot-repair" tool in order to try to fix this automatically. This tool removed the "Windows" entry from Grub! Now I am not sure about how to fix this: must I manually edit my menu.lst?... Actually, all you usually have to do in that situation is to enter sudo update-grub in a t...

Re: mate-bluetooth-properties hangs then crashes :(

Just tried the Cinnamon live DVD and Bluetooth seems to be fine there. No problem pairing my Bluetooth mouse or opening the preferences. Too bad about Mate... I'm surprised no one caught that.

mate-bluetooth-properties hangs then crashes :(

When I open the menu from the Bluetooth applet I can turn BT on/off and set visibility, but nothing else. Click on Preferences... nothing :( Click on Set up new device... nada :( Try and launch mate-bluetooth-properties from a terminal and it exits with, tim@Shuttle-M13 ~/Desktop $ mate-bluetooth-pr...

Re: Brasero hasn't worked, for years

I've never had much luck with Brasero. It will usually work burn okay, then fail on verify. However the burned media is okay, in spite of the verify failure. Never could trust it because of that. My favourite Linux burning utility is, ironically, ImgBurn, which is a Windows application that works gr...

Re: Impossible to boot Mint 13 USB

I just tried it using the Linux dd method and it worked fine. I also tried Unetbootin and that worked as well. Which methods from that link have you tried? The tutorial says it's compatible with Unetbootin or Startup Disk Creator. I see nothing there about LILI. Are your flash drives the "U3" type? ...

Re: Desktop Screenshots Thread - January 2012

Woo Hoo! :D I've finally got Mint 12 looking and working the way I want it to (well 95% or so). As opposed to just using a distro that works 100% the way you want out of the box? Just sayin'... That's why I'm still on Mint-10. Best Mint release EVER! Hopefully things will improve with Gnome3/Cinnam...

Re: Another DE option for Mint 12 - Cinnamon

OK, so I have been playing around with Cinnamon 1.1.13 for a while now ... btw: great work, looks really, really promising and the most desirable DE to move over to from Gnome 2. I am sold now on Mint and will move over all my (non-server) machines when the next LTS version is out (I am too lazy to...

Re: Another DE option for Mint 12 - Cinnamon

On the other hand, MATE is a direct fork of the latest version of Gnome 2 (2.32) and, once released, will be everything that Gnome 2.32 was and more since it will be under constant development. There are plenty of Gnome 2 users who have felt left behind by Gnome.orgs' decisions of late and they rig...

Re: Another DE option for Mint 12 - Cinnamon

And yes, I know that Xfce can be had with the LMDE base, but it's a less user friendly OS, and it's not as compatible with the diverse range of hardware we all use. I've never been able to get LMDE working right with my systems. It seems like every time they fix one thing, something else breaks. Ubu...

Re: Another DE option for Mint 12 - Cinnamon

Yes, I know that MATE and Cinnamon are still in early development, and will improve over time, but no one really addressed my original question. Why bother adding all this stuff to Gnome3/Shell instead of just replacing it with an established, user friendly DE. As I understand it, MATE/Cinnamon will...
