Re: Cinnamon Drawer ?
Thank you. That vertical panel workaround seemed like a good idea. Well, until one figured out that it's totally useless as there is no drag & drop to panels in cinnamon (WHY ???). The "add to panel" function drops launchers onto the horizontal panel exclusively, not onto the vertical ...

Re: Cinnamon Drawer ?
I invested some more time into wmdrawer - to no avail. It does not hold anything I try to drop into it. Custom applications menu I still like but still can't get to work reliably. Maybe someone else could try ? E.g. with LibreOffice Writer or Character Map - just two examples that I can't get to sho...

Re: Cinnamon Drawer ?
@smurphos: Great idea for a workaround, thank you. Unfortunately that does not work either as I cannot move the panel-launcher applet to Hideable applets.

Re: Cinnamon Drawer ?
Thank you, I had already found that, but it can only hold applets, not launchers, and it opens horizontally, thus takes up space on the taskbar again. "Hideable applets" at least opens vertically and comes a bit closer to the old drawer, but again: it can only hold applets, not launchers. ...

[Solved - kind of] Cinnamon Drawer ?
MATE had a drawer - literally a yellow drawer icon that could hold other icons for program and accessory launchers. Clicking on it would open a vertical list of whatever was in it. I do not seem to be able to find this in Cinnamon ? Thanks a lot.

[SOLVED] StrongSwan installation problems (network manager)
Sorry to even post this here, it might be way too complicated to try and solve this via this forum (as I am not experienced enough), but maybe someone has an easy solution: LMDE 2 (Betsy) 64-bit MATE, trying to install StrongSwan. Unfortunately the repository does not offer the network manager (netw...

Re: Keyboard shortcut or command to turn off screen ?
When I started using the command
it became apparent that it does in fact turn the screen off, but only for about 20 seconds or so.
Is there any way to stop the screen from turning itself on again ?
Thank you.
xset dpms force off
it became apparent that it does in fact turn the screen off, but only for about 20 seconds or so.
Is there any way to stop the screen from turning itself on again ?
Thank you.

Re: No regular Firefox in repository, only ESR ??
As per https://mozilla.debian.net/ WARNING: Jessie and Stretch backports of Firefox release and beta are gone because of the requirement of rust to build them, which is not available in Jessie or Stretch. Please update your apt sources to use Firefox ESR instead. That was changed a while ago alread...

Re: No regular Firefox in repository, only ESR ??
Why would you even try to install Firefox? It's already present by default on any new installation of Mint. I switched to ESR from regular in November. Now got rid of ESR, wanted to update regular. It mutated into ESR. Used old system backups from >1 year ago with regular FF v. 54, no ESR ever inst...

[SOLVED] No regular Firefox in repository, only ESR ??
Confused: there used to be the "normal" FF (default) as well as the ESR-version. Now, the repository appears to substitute the normal FF with ESR v.60.1. (And FF ESR shows v. 52.9) When installing from terminal, the same thing happens: ESR (not regular) FF gets installed with sudo apt-get ...

Re: Keyboard shortcut or command to turn off screen ?

Keyboard shortcut or command to turn off screen ?
I hope this is the right place to post ? LMDE2 Betsy 64-bit on a Thinkpad: is there a keyboard shortcut or a command to turn off the screen ? Backstory: (old) thinkpads came with various keyboard commands, one of them being Fn+F3 to turn off the screen. Fn+F4 suspended the computer. Fn+F4 still work...

Re: Thunderbird not sending emails
Problem solved. It was an add-on issue after all, but coming to that conclusion was an odyssey for a number of reasons. Should others have this problem in the future I suggest to take into consideration the following: 1. The function "restart with add-ons disabled" under the "Help&quo...

Thunderbird not sending emails [SOLVED]
Thunderbird not sending emails This might or might not have anything to do with my last repository update that included updating Thunderbird from v. 1.52.8.x to v. 1.52.9.1. I am unable to send emails. Nothing happens when I try hitting the "send" button, go to "File" -> "se...

Re: [SOLVED] Firefox v46: scrollbar (and bookmarks toolbar) problems
You can thank Mozilla for that. It would be fantastic if they would stop breaking things. Every other update renders something else unusable which requires yet another add-on as a fix. This time they messed up even worse imho. P.S. You can read through the release notes for FF v.46 if interested: ht...
