Install Mint on a free OS Laptop

Hi guys, I am about to buy a brand new HP laptop (Compaq CQ58-d69SG) which comes with no operating system pre-installed. Re: failed to install LM16 Cinnamon 64bit on HP Compaq CQ58-

Hi MathiasR,

I am thinking to buy the same laptop, and wanted to ask whether you eventually managed to run Linux Mint on it?

Re: Help! Failed Installation

I did install the nvidia 173 driver. However, the problem persists: No GRUB menu, tty1 screen followed by X Server message. Failed to start X server (your graphical interface). It is likely that it is not set up correctly. Would you like to view the x server output to diagnose the problem? <Yes> <No...

Re: Black screen after boot

Thanks WharfRat, I will follow the instructions there and keep you posted.

By the way, do you think reinstalling Linux Mint is a better option than implementing the 'nomodest' option? I just want to implement the most 'stable' solution.

Re: Black screen after boot
