Firefox - Disable pesky keyboard shortcuts

Hello, I'm not 100% sure where to post this, but I wanted to share a few tips and tricks regarding disabling pesky Firefox keyboard shorcuts. Here we go... Has anyone ever encountered Firefox closing seemingly at random while typing? I sure did. It took a minute to figure out, but I discovered that ...

Re: Info needed 17.1 MATE install - WD 500gb AFD

Ugh, I was responding twice now when my internet connection dropped upon hitting submit (and hence the reply was lost), and firefox also crashed... Sorry for the delayed response. Basically, I see no reason why default settings wont work. To quote the article you linked... The file system defaults o...

Re: Info needed 17.1 MATE install - WD 500gb AFD

Hello. I haven't replied to a help topic in here in a long time, so please forgive any errors on my part. Here we go... Regarding file systems... File systems (ext2/3/4) are generally user preference. I'm going to assume that you would want ext4, and the benefits it provides. There are other file sy...

Re: OMG, this girl can play guitar!

Heh, as an acoustic guitar player, I can see the basic technique behind her awesomeness. Basically you have bar chords, hammer ons, pull offs, bends, and moving up and down the scales really, REALLY fast. Some of the finger position I can tell would be something similar to the "A minor pentatonic sc...

Re: Which do you prefer: Cinnamon or XFCE?

Heh, its nice to see a thread that I've started more than a year ago pick up again. Provided it does not violate board rules, I'd like to see this thread remain open.

I'm still rocking XFCE, had a bit of fun with themes and the likes. XFCE is simply a solid DE which has never given me grief. :)

Re: Why would someone buy a MintBox 2 or a MintBox Mini

This is a good question. I can see a wide variety of uses for the MintBox. Some uses could be (with enough tweaking/configuring)... -Robotics (mostly for fun or for experiments) -Scientific instruments (like a cheap weather station for home use) -An arcade game system, but with better graphics. -Jus...

Re: virus

As for viruses, I hope the answer is clear that linux has about 98% "immunity", if you will, to such threats. See all the other good posts here for more info. As for Windows 98 and ME.... yikes. Even Windows XP is atrocious for security. I hope you arent using any of those operating systems currently!

Re: C programming and Linux

I have to second Python here. As for making GUI's with C, SDL Is a great place to start. You can make fun games in 2 dimensions. I've got myself some projects going (in C++) and I really am enjoying it. Hopefully we have helped you out. Remember to edit the first post and mark the subject as [SOLVED...

Re: C programming and Linux

Hm... Not sure what you mean by "more integrated programs that affect some of the operation of Linux." However, you would need to learn the Linux API. From there, you should probably use a virtualbox for testing purposes. Wouldn't want to bork your main install! Heres a link that may help, and a goo...

Re: What games are you playing / are you looking forward to?

Just made the switch to linux from windows. Going "cold turkey" (no windows back-up machine). ... Going cold turkey to Linux is quite a switch! I wish you the best in your sudden Linux adventure. As for games, I'm writing my own games, 'cause why not. :) Now to fix the latest segmentation f...

Re: Is Linux Secure or Vulnerable?

This is an interesting topic for me. I'm not a security guru nor do I even know much about networking/hacking/security/etc along those lines, but heres my 2 cents... Long post, so heres a short version: Basically, the web browser, certain online games/services (that probably wont run on Linux anyway...

Hungry Human - A game written in C++ using SDL2

Hello all. I am an enthusiast/hobbyist programmer and I've been working on a game for the past little while. I've mostly been hanging around on the Arch Linux community, getting input and such, but now I think I'm ready to present Hungry Human to the Mint community. :) From the readme... About the g...

Re: Will there be a LM17.1 XFCE release?

Thanks xenopeek. Most of those ISO tests look fairly simple, and it tells you exactly what to do for each test. I'll pop on the IRC today, and register on the community website. I can also do lots of RC testing too.

Re: Will there be a LM17.1 XFCE release?

Doh! I tend to do that a lot... Ask or do something a bit early/late (within 1 day). Thanks for the info though. Is there any way one might be able to contribute to testing or bug fixing? Heck, I've seriously improved in my programming since last time I wanted to join the Mint dev team. Maybe in th...

Will there be a LM17.1 XFCE release?

Hello all. Maybe I'm being impatient, but with the releae of LM17.1 Cinnamon and MATE, I can't help but wonder if there will be an XFCE release. So, is there a XFCE release being worked on? I know that the response I'm gonna get is probably "It will be released when its ready" but thats not very hel...

Eh, alright. I guess I wont bother. Everythings works just fine. So I guess if it aint broken, don't fix it. I will be keeping a stable system and not be risking breakage.
