Re: Setting up LMDE 2 for school/homework.

So far so good, the majority of stuff works out of the box. A few tweaks to the monitor/TV and I'm rocking and ready to go... ...with the exception of printing. I thought it would be a pain, and itis. Once I got the darn thing (printer) hooked up to wifi, nothing I do can cause it to print. I've tri...

Re: Setting up LMDE 2 for school/homework.

Oh, I'm not doing university. Just my last year before I take an adventure down that road. Grade 12 is fun. But thanks anyways! Chromium and pepperflash might be the way to go. I don't mind firefox, but its rather bleh. It's good to know most of everything will work out of the box though. Save me a ...

Setting up LMDE 2 for school/homework. [SOLVED]

Greetings everyone, I have an old PC (Pentium 4 3GHz, 2GB RAM) that I want to setup for school and homework purposes. I plan on using this topic for questions I may have along the way, in addition to posting the results of my research. With that said, I'd like to discuss options as far as the follow...

Re: Driver upgrade attempt ends in failure...

The weird thing is I never had any problems using the proprietary driver from the website before. My CS:GO performance went from 15 to around 50FPS with that change and misc. other tweaks. So I figured it couldnt hurt to try it again in Mint 17.2. Guess I got slapped pretty hard, considering I don't...

Re: WOT Play on Linux

When I had it working, I did install Play on Linux. I've since wiped my drive sadly. :( See here: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=203310

Driver upgrade attempt ends in failure...

Hello everyone, Three days ago I wanted to upgrade my GPU drivers, in hopes of gaining WINE performance. So I install AMD's proprietary driver from the official site, where I had no problems before. I reboot and black screen, no MDM, no nothing. So I ctrl + alt + f2 and start hacking away. Eventuall...

Re: WOT Play on Linux

Good news! I can play world of tanks in WINE!

The bad news is I have to play it at 10 FPS. I'm going to upgrade my video drivers and see how that goes.

That is the part that I was wondering about. Sadly I dont know a lot about networking or drivers. Hopefully someone who knows the web and its hardware more than I do will be able to assist further.

Re: Can I use two internal wifi cards at the same time?

I'd say conflicting drivers would cause this issue. In my laptop, my USB wifi adapter enabled at the same time as my PCI-E adapter causes mega network slowdown, sluggishness, and dropped packets or dropping connection entirely. I'm not sure why there would be a reason to use 2 NIC's at the same time...

Re: All Desktop Screenshots > 2nd Half of 2015

Ah, to do that in XFCE, you need to: -Enable workspaces. I just added a workspace switcher to the panel and 4 workspaces, though you can have more or less. -Right click in a blank area on the desktop in any workspace and hit "desktop settings" -Uncheck the box that says "Apply to all workspaces" -No...

Re: WOT Play on Linux

Yeah, the upgrade process broke a lot of things. So now I have my 32 bit bare wine drive for steam games and misc other applications, and I am using the PoL virtual drive for world of tanks. Waiting to see if this helps to get past the crash upon entering garage.

Re: WOT Play on Linux

Ah, I am not using PoL. Just native wine at this time. I'd rather not muck with play on linux. I have done so in the past and got horrible results.

World of tanks is still downloading more than 8 hours later, time for some sleep.

Re: Just kicked my drive and it's dead...

I wouldn't call it being clever. I'd call it being smart. As for SSD's, if you backup data, put into a safe and never use it until next backup, you'd be okay. If the safe ever got dropped or whatever, then your data would still be okay. That said, $4000 for a firmware unlock is... So it's up...

Re: WOT Play on Linux

Ah, is there a way to painlessly upgrade? I didn't notice that I was using wine 1.6, I definitely want the latest version. Beta/staging versions work for me. I'll see if there's a way.

EDIT: It appears 1.6 is the latest stable version/series. I'm experimenting with 1.7 now, will post how it goes.

Re: WOT Play on Linux

No problem. While I'm at it, I figure it cant hurt to post my laptop's specs and wine version. I encourage others to do the same, maybe we could have a sort of mini-database of what works and what does not with WoT. The commands I want to use are inxi -SCG and wine --version , though you could use w...

Re: WOT Play on Linux

Here's something I found. If anyone wanting to play World of Tanks is having launcher issues (errors and failing to download), then what you need to do is disable torrents. It's very easy. Open the launcher, top right corner hit the wrench, and uncheck "Allow to use torrent". Just this one setting f...

Re: WOT Play on Linux

Having left WOT at v9.1, and seeing this thread, I am planning on getting back into the game if I can. Launcher failure after launcher failure wont stop me. I'm downloading all of MS visual studio and .NET junk that a thread on wargaming's site said was mandatory, in addition to a few other things. ...

Re: Just kicked my drive and it's dead...

Ouch, that does suck. In the future you may want to look at an SSD with USB 3.0 if you can. The speed and safety (IE reduced risk of death after being dropped) increases would be huge. SSD's have electronic wear and tear, sure. But I have yet to have a flash drive go bunk on me, and I abuse my flash...

Re: Chromium Browser Hijacker

Apparently this is a huge problem for Chromium [ http://chrome.blogspot.com/2014/01/clean-up-your-hijacked-settings.html ] What surprised me was that I'm using a linux distro. I am slightly surprised by the attack attempt/whatever it may have been, but I am not surprised at all that it worked on a ...
