Re: torrents constantly stalling in linux mint?

You could try WINE and use that to torrent, since you mentioned Windows torrenting works fine. Install the Windows client to WINE, then you can download via WINE and still transfer any files between wine/native Linux without issues.

Re: What are your top tips for a Newbie?

-Back up often. Do so before any major system change (full upgrade, drivers, experiments, etc), and again at whatever time frame is needed for you, IE once every 3 months. I don't have a lot of my data backed up, but I can recover a non-booting/broken system if needed. You have to choose between saf...

Re: torrents constantly stalling in linux mint?

There was nothing wrong with your system if xkill failed. If you want to *force* a program to quit, do the following: -Get the program name: "ps -e | grep -i <PossibleProgramNameHere>" -Once you have the name, we need the PID: "pidof <PossibleProgramNameHere>" -Using the returned PID, we kill that p...

Re: "The Daily Show" crashes my computer

You may wish to try the following LINK on Ask Ubuntu. Be very careful when running any command with root (sudo) permissions! Also, do not copy and paste blindly. Make sure, to the best of your ability, that the commands are doing what they should be. I take no responsibility if this hoses your syste...

Re: Increasing performace of rt3090 wifi by removing power s

On a relevant note, My HP Laptop has a Ralink RT3 2 90 wifi adapter. In Linux Mint 17.2 XFCE, the adapter works 98% flawlessly. The other 2% is the odd connection drop, likely completely unrelated to the card (I have a lot of wireless phones, a microwave, etc. causing interference). Here are my spec...

There may be a way to use a gradient to selectively and gradually darken areas of the music. I am going to see what I can do and post the results. :D

Re: my grease lasts for maybe a week TT, any better products

I'm wondering if, to make better contact/spread the paste better, it would be appropriate to use popsicle stick and toothpick. Like, take the popsicle stick to spread it initially, and toothpick for edges. I'm also fairly certain you dont need much more than a pea sized drop, depending on the size o...

Re: Linux Mint 17.2 Cinnamon and problem with AMD A8 7410 AP

Ah yes, R5 graphics will run slow on an older kernel that may not support the hardware well. As exploder mentions, The 3.19 kernel combined with installing the proprietary drivers should greatly improve things. . You may wish to read THIS guide on how to upgrade the kernel painlessly, or use the upd...

Re: Your opinions on Windows 10 so far..

There is a saying that goes something like this: If you are not paying for something, you are the product. Not the customer. What this means is that MS giving away Windows 10 is almost 100% chance to spy on more people. I have an odd viewpoint on spying/knowledge. I don't see any harm in MS holding ...

Re: Having a laugh - take a look!

Maybe I am missing something here, but what is so funny about this? It's kinda boring to watch, if you ask me, which you don't. I'm telling you anyway. I agree. I was watching it going "Huh?". I'm guessing the male character taking his own life has something to do with the Japanese ritual of seppuk...

Re: Linux Mint 17.2 “Rafaela” Xfce released!

Yes, the speed improvements during and after install are huge! During the install, I noticed even from a DVD things seemed more responsive and quicker to load. Post install, I recall my previous XFCE system running Mint 17 (not 17.1) often took 8 seconds or so to bring up the whisker menu, and get a...

Re: Linux Mint 17.2 “Rafaela” Xfce released!

Just upgraded via fresh install, and I'm loving it! A couple of notes: -My laptop's Ralink RT3290 wifi adapter seems to be fully working and fully supported! :D -Shutting down via the login screen sometimes causes shutdown or next boot to fail. If I can accurately pinpoint and re-produce the problem...

Re: Why do you dual-boot?

I do not dual boot currently, because I have no need to. Each of my PC's has its own, singular OS. My server runs Arch, my laptop runs Mint, and my desktop runs Windows 7 (once I get it working, *sigh*). Why the Windows 7 desktop? Mostly for my brother, but I also plan on using it for school/homewor...

Im almost certain the response to your question, imsaikat, is going to be "when its ready". The Linux Mint team does a fantastic job in regards to testing, bug fixing, etc. before releasing the final OS. Last I remember, during the Release Candidate (RC) phase, the team uses that time period to iron...

Re: So I tried to install Windows OS today and...

Yeah, if you are installing 7 from scratch in 2015, there are almost 200 updates about 1.2GB in size. It's annoying for sure but once you get past that period everything is fine. Ah, good to know I wont be using that desktop for a few hours while it updates after I track down my new monitor. It may...
