Re: Conky, show internet speed in megabits not megabytes

Why not convert the units in the script? :?

Take your number in Megabytes, divide by 0.125, and get the Megabits equivalent. So a 20MB/s connection would be 160Mbps. Simple, elegant, and efficient. :)

Re: Everything about Touhou and WIne

Ah, I'm going to guess you want a way to automate the process of starting the game. The simplest of ways I can think of right now would be to use a bash alias. Then you can do something like "play_thxx" into the terminal and it will launch the game with your settings. Here's how to make an alias... ...

Re: Everything about Touhou and WIne

Greetings, Can you please post the exact steps you take to set the LANG variable (or command??) for use in wine? Once we know how you're setting it up specifically for Touhou, it shouldn't be hard to automate the process. As for menu editors in KDE, that I am not sure of. You can try looking for som...

Re: Plunging into the depths of LMDE 2 :)

So far so good! I have all of my hardware working as I want, and I plan on using that desktop for testing purposes. I might pursue security related projects, test out various desktops environments, develop command line applications, stuff like that.

Cheers to the LMDE and Mint team,

Plunging into the depths of LMDE 2 :)

Hello everyone. I've installed LMDE 2 on an ancient PC because the standard edition of Mint is too slow for the hardware, and Arch Linux was way too much work. I had tried just Debian in the past, and didnt particularly like it. With the release of LMDE 2, I'm giving Debian another go. Here's hoping...

Re: What are your top tips for a Newbie?

Hello Matthew Paul, I dont like the idea of having to click on tinyurl links. The biggest reason is that I have no way of knowing where the link will take me. Thankfully, there is a solution built-in to the forums. You can use URL tags! For example, the following code [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/w...

Re: Why so serious about GNU/Linux?

For anyone who is serious about PC gaming, Windows is a must. ... Linux is for the hobbyist, not the end-user. I disagree with the above quoted statements. I'll break down my views for friendly discussion below. Depending on what you consider to be "serious" PC gaming, then yes, Linux may not be fo...

This is rather odd. It looks like cron is failing at this line: May 5 04:35:01 studiok CRON[10954]: (root) CMD (command -v debian-sa1 > /dev/null && debian-sa1 1 1) I'm far from a cron expert, but the following bug report may be of use: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=516439 That w...

Ah, black screen after logging in is different from not being able to boot at all. I must have read your first post wrong . ... I left it for a while and then held the power button down to turn the computer off. ... This is a very bad way to shutdown a Linux computer, because of how the boot and shutdown process works. Re: mysterious requests to google

This is most likely nothing serious. The Mint update manager will make ping requests to google to check for internet connectivity. I know this because Clem or Xenopeek (or some other staff member) responded to a similar topic a while ago. I will try and find it ASAP and post the link here. So for no...

Heh, before I found the addon, I too tried to look in about:config. I have not found anything currently in there though! Re: What games are you playing / are you looking forward to?

I've gotten into Dota 2 quite a lot recently. It's a lot of fun, and a nice change from counter strike. I've also picked up Waveform on steam for $0.27 CAD on sale a bit ago. Its an interesting puzzle game, in which you are a beam of light, and by modifying amplitude and frequency (width and height)...
