Re: chrome/brave browser: temporarily use other search engine

What i have to do, of course, is enter "<search term> site:www.amazon.com" in the address bar. Seems like a kludge, anyway. So why do they have the extra search engines???

Re: lm19.2 Ctrl-alt-End and -Delete have lost functionality

..., uncheck Prevent Focus Stealing Thank you so much for your responses! Prevent Focus Stealing was, and is, disabled. Turns out some of the Alt-choices do work. After the Ctrl-Alt-End dialog is open, pressing Alt-u starts the 'suspend' mode. I didn't know about the alt keys until I ran LM18.3 and...

SOLVED chrome/brave browser: temporarily use other search engine

Most of the time I just type my search query into the address bar, and let DuckDuckGo do its thing. But there are times when I want to search on a particular site; e.g., Amazon for a particular book. In Firefox, with its extra search box, I can type in the name of the book, then select Amazon. But i...

SOLVED lm19.2 Ctrl-alt-End and -Delete have lost functionality

In Mint 18.3 pressing Ctrl-alt-delete or Ctrl-alt-End brought up dialog boxes which could be easily navigated by pressing Tab, arrow keys, or Alt+shortcut letter. This functionality seems to be missing in 19.3. Is this a feature, i.e., a designed reduction in function, or is it a bug or oversight (s...

Re: sed or awk: add text around PATTERN in line

Wow, Rene! I haven't had a chance to check it yet, as it's past my bedtime, but I will tomorrow. I need to change: <span class="parno">14</span> to "[14] " <--- this was working one time only, haven't tested the next edition <span class="add">some text</span> to "some text" (no quotes, of course) <s...

Re: sed or awk: add text around PATTERN in line

Great, Thanks! There is a problem, though: it only exchanges the first instance of the string. I have deleted all blank line and replaced all \n newline characters with space, so that my 60kb text file is on a single line. I thought the construct 's/search/replace/g' would change every instance... -...

SOLVED sed or awk: add text around PATTERN in line

Hi, I have about 4,000 web pages I'm editing using a bash script which calls sed. I would like to remove/replace a lot of keyword phrases as in the example below: Change <p><span class="parno">1</span> Text... to <p>[1] Text... In my IDE I can search for <span class="add">(\w*)<\/span> , replacing i...

Re: lm 18.3/19.2 Unable to run new install of firefox

Try deleting the old firefox cache as well as the .mozilla profile directory This cache directory located in ~/.cache/mozilla/firefox Thanks! This provided the clue to the answer. As mentioned, I keep all my data in the /ddr partition -- including the cache. Somehow I had deleted the target directo...

Re: lm 18.3/19.2 Unable to run new install of firefox

Thank you, Karl. Please refer to my original post. This is a NEW INSTALL: I removed firefox and deleted the .mozilla directory, so it should be a clean install. Forget about the saved profile. I installed a new edition of firefox using apt-get install firefox. I got a message about be sure to close ...

Re: lm 18.3/19.2 Unable to run new install of firefox

/ddr is my data partition; there is an entry in fstab. (Ever since DOS I've kept my data separate from the OS. This has saved me more than once.)

[SOLVED] lm 18.3/19.2 Unable to run new install of firefox

I somehow fouled up my ~/.mozilla/ directory, so every time I try to run firefox I get that darn 'profile missing or inaccessible' error. I tried removing the entire directory, then running apt-get remove firefox', followed by 'apt-get install firefox', but I get the same error, even after running '...

Re: xcalib error: Unsupported Ramp Size

Found the answer elsewhere, so I thought I'd put it here for Mint 19 users. Create a file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf , and paste in this text Section "Device" Identifier "Intel Graphics" Driver "intel" EndSection in a terminal enter sudo xed /usr/share/doc/xserver-xorg-video-intel/xorg.conf ...

Re: Start Tomboy Notes minimied in tray (LM19.2)

I wanted to put this in community.linuxmint.com, but I couldn't figure out how to create a new tutorial. Where is the best place to put posts like this -- community or forums>tutorials? If community, how does one create a new tutorial?

Thanks

Re: LM 19.2 select USB headphones always

Thanks to all for your replies. I have SkypeForLinux and VLC players, both of which can assign the output device independent of the sound panel, so I often have to open all of them, or at least VLC to set/reset the output device. Just seems to be the way it is, so I'll put up with it. Input device i...

Re: how to run lm18.3 version of dconf editor in lm 19.2

thanks, Karl. The best way to run 18.3's version of anything is to boot in 18.3, which I can do because I have different releases in different partitions. About the only thing I like better about LM19.2 is that it boots faster. All the other changes are annoying but I've been gritting my teeth and p...

I am not sure what your remaining problem is, you said you could turn it off now and I'm not sure what the rest of your post is about?
I could before, but now i can't.

BTW running timeshift to last night's save doesn't help

Re: lm19.2 kill x-system hotkey

NOW the kill X Session function is totally messed up. SOLVED xcalib error: Unsupported Ramp Size

I had a script in LM 18.3 that worked fine, but doesn't work in LM 19.2

Code: Select all

xcalib -d :0 -s 0 -v /usr/share/color/icc/colord/Gamma5500K.icc
xcalib -co 90 -a
Both of these command come back with: Error - unsupported ramp size 0

What do I have to do to prevent this error?

-Thanks,
Sadhu
