[Solved] Hidden File Will Not Delete - A Linux Virus?

Mint 17.3 MATE 64 bit on external NTFS drive. I downloaded an archive of IMG files and unarchived it. I decided that I didn’t need them, so I deleted the archive (using delete instead of send to trash), but I couldn’t delete the folder it created. I checked the reason and it was because the folder w...

17.3 Now Hangs at MDM and Anac(h)ronistic During Boot (1 Hr!)

Three installs ago (yesterday) I completely replaced Windows 7 and Mint 17.3 Mate with cleared partitions and fresh installs. Windows installed on the first try and everything is fine. On the Linux side, I cannot get in I have waited almost two hours on the second install. I can’t even get into reco...

Re: Multi-Booting with MS-DOS

What format did you use, it looks like it must be fat16, dos5 does not read fat32 nor ntfs. What is the start sector of your msdos partition ? What I have read the partition MUST be the first partition (?) and it will only read the first 8.4 GB of a hard disk. Aha! You have hit the nail on the head...

Re: Inverted Screen Blackout Became Permanent

Well wherever the problem is, it isn’t in /boot. I broke down and re-installed Mint 17,3 with Mate and did a full format on the /boot and / partitions. That leaves only the /home partition where the problem could be. I have a backup of the /home partition just before it went bad. If I knew the speci...

Re: Multi-Booting with MS-DOS

Well, I put a DOS folder in my partition and it was discovered. I am having difficulties with another matter and the live disc of 17.3 is crapping out on me. I think I will need to burn a fresh one. As for editing the grub, I haven’t had a chance to check it out yet, but there is a KDE grub2 configu...

Multi-Booting with MS-DOS

Because I had a folder in the root of one of my drives, Mint Install and Boot Repair kept adding MS-DOS to the boot list. All the folder had in it was an old DOS graphics viewer/converter (the only thing that will read Japanese MAG image files). No systems files at all. So, I started thinking why no...

Changing Icon Size

Is there any way of getting more variety of icon size on the desktop in Mate 1.12.0 besides just larger/smaller? I have the icons on larger, but it wasn’t really enough difference for me. The other folders have a sliding scale in percentage, but Desktop doesn’t have that. At least it isn’t readily a...

Re: Inverted Screen Blackout Became Permanent

I don’t know if this has anything to do with this problem, but I ran across this while searching the grub configuration file for a clue as to why the screen output is still black.

Is this legitimate? Batman Adv??

Re: Inverted Screen Blackout Became Permanent

I created a shell script and use a shortcut key to activate it. The cursor flips upside-right, but the screen remains black. There is nothing in xrandr help that gives me a clue about the black screen. The shell script I wrote is here. #!/bin/bash xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto --rotate normal --pos 0...

Inverted Screen Blackout Became Permanent

I had a little problem with setting up the Administrator privileges. I don’t know if anyone else has this problem, but when I go to the Advanced Settings in 17.3 MATE the bottom of the windows goes off the screen. That means the buttons are inaccessible under normal viewing. I had been doing a work-...

Re: Cannot Change / Check User Account Settings

deepakdeshp: Nope. It won’t allow me to add a new account. I may have to work on this from the command line, if I can give my current account administrator status. In every other respect, nothing has changed my status. Just accessing the user account settings is affected. As for the Time and Date, t...

[SOLVED] Cannot Change / Check User Account Settings

Mint 17.3 MATE, 64bit Everything seems normal, even having the same user permissions, but for some reason I don’t have full access to my user account. I can change my name. I cannot access Account type. My Password setting says “Asked on login” which is wrong and I don’t get asked. I can get into it...

Re: Could not download all repository indexes (Rosa)

I think I have found the problem. I turned off each PPA and extra repository until finally all the problems went away. It happened when I disabled the URL for the stable Opera browser that was installed when I installed Opera. deb https//:deb.opera.com/opera-stable/ stable non-free Opera Browser (fi...

Re: Could not download all repository indexes (Rosa)

Another Update I wound up re-installing Rosa and fixed the problem long enough to get everything installed and setup just how I want it. Everything was all nice and clean. Then the error message returned and will not allow the Update Manager to work, nor will it allow me to use apt-get update. Howev...

Re: Terminal: Resume Process from (END)

Great, just hit the Q key. Well I wound up exiting. Then went through and cleaned and checked for broken packages. Then a message appeared on how to resume where I left off. So I was able to finish updating my packages and move on to re-installing everything. Everything is fine now, except after I f...

[SOLVED] Terminal: Resume Process from (END)

I was running an update from the terminal when there was a message that a file would be changed. One option was to review the changes that would be made. So after looking at the changes I decided they were okay, but there was no option to resume, select yes or no, or anything. Just the flashing (END...

Re: Could not download all repository indexes (Rosa)

I have an update. I used the install CD of Rosa to replace /etc/apt and /usr/lib/apt. Software Manager, Synaptic and Update Manager are now showing all of the packages again, but I still get the error message about the method driver. I haven’t tried using anything yet though. UPDATE 2 I successfully...
