[Solved] Could not download all repository indexes (Rosa)

I just did a clean install of Rosa and am now in the process of re-installing and configuring (most) everything back to where I had it. Then suddenly the Package Update Manager went AWOL complaining about the method driver, the same one that apparently other people have problems with. I tried the su...

Re: More Precise Partition Tool

Or just decide to use the binary system for the hard drives. It doesn't really matter to me as long as I use only one or the other. Since GParted uses binary and doesn't use units less that 1MiB, then I will adapt my sizes to take that into account. Still, the programs should be consistent either as...

[Solved] More Precise Partition Tool

I decided to stick with metric units (B kB MB GB) for partitioning. I like using Disk especially since you can select which unit you want to use. Unfortunately, it is not precise. I entered 100 MB and I wound up with a partition over 100,000,000 Bytes. I thought that I could overcome the problem by ...

Re: Prevent WiFi Closing When Idle

The funny thing is, the Windows 7 side of my laptop has absolutely no problem with the Wi-Fi dropping and there has never been any reason to go into the registry or even the configuration files to change settings. I didn’t even have to do anything like this with XP, where the connection settings wer...

Re: Prevent WiFi Closing When Idle

Power management of the adapter was off. There was no line for turning off the module, so I added that. Now I need the settings. I found all but one. Since no system wants to use the same terms as everyone else, I had to try to match settings as best I could. First set of numbers is the LAN>private ...

Re: Prevent WiFi Closing When Idle

I don’t understand how hard coding the adapter settings will keep it from timing out when idle. My IP settings, etc. don’t change when the network is not being used. Besides the easiest way to change those settings would be to go into Network Settings, take them off of roaming mode and enter in the ...

Prevent WiFi Closing When Idle

I have been having this problem for a while now, and I cannot find anywhere to turn off this feature or change the settings. I did try changing the ssh_config script, but the problem persists. If anything, it got worse shutting off the network connection in the middle of a browser session. Linux 17....

Disable Automatic Clearing of gEdit/Pluma Recent Documents

This past week or so, when I restart Linux, it clears the document histories including the histories of individual applications like gEdit and Pluma. I don’t mind so much the others, but I am working on a project with text files and twice now, the histories have disappeared and I have to re-establis...

 Illustration: Try LibreOffice Draw (you need some hours to check all the features...) - the GIMP-side has a "photoshop"-script that changes the paletts. Voilà! Limited in which image formats can be used and no export optimization. There are other issues I have with LibreOffice and OpenOff...

Re: [NOT solved] Trash shown always empty

It may be a variety of reasons caused by the way the desktop accesses the OS. The errors seem to be inconsistent as if the code has been patched and re-patched to accommodate different things for each desktop and now there is no uniform way for the desktops to interact with the file system and OS. E...

Re: [NOT solved] Trash shown always empty

Hah! Finally got everything the way I want it. Though I can’t say for sure how I did it. What did happen is I had given up and re-selected the base icon set and matched everything to that (Mint-X). The trash can icon still didn’t work. Yesterday, I gave it another go. I changed the icon set to the o...

Re: Canon iP2820 Printer not Working on Rosa

Here is the latest Advanced Diagnostic Output. This is stupid its giving the same message as the last post with exactly the same number of characters. Fine. I will break the report up into two posts. Page 1 (Scheduler not running?): {'cups_connection_failure': False} Page 2 (Choose printer): {'cups_...

Re: Ctrl+Alt+Del Ctrl+Alt+Bksp Does Nothing

Yes, it does. When registering the key combination in the keyboard shortcuts, pressing ctrl+win+del is acknowledged as ctrl+alt+del. And it couldn’t be a hardware problem. If it were, it would seem Windows would be affected as well. Is there any other keyboard system besides X11 on Linux Mint that i...

Re: Ctrl+Alt+Del Ctrl+Alt+Bksp Does Nothing

Well, of course you would use the delete key on the normal keyboard section. The delete key on the numeric pad depends on whether NumLock is on or off. I have never heard of anyone using any other delete key for the reboot sequence. Yes, I know about the “Magic SysRq” key, etc. They don’t work so we...

Ctrl+Alt+Del Ctrl+Alt+Bksp Does Nothing

I was having this problem before, but thought it was just because the keyboard was locked up. Now I find that if my mouse is disabled and I have a problem, even if the keyboard isn’t locked up, neither Ctrl+Alt+Delete or Ctrl+Alt+Backspace does anything at all. Which forces me to use the power butto...

Re: I need an offline translator

Dictionaries are not translators, but translators use dictionaries. Linux has dictionaries up the wazoo. What someone needs to do is create a translator to make them more useful than just spell checkers.
