Re: I need an offline translator

Have you tried entering "linux translator offline arabic" into a search engine? Have you looked in the Software Manager? Have you? There is no good offline translator in the Mint software manager. YouTranslate uses online translators. We wouldn’t be asking if we could find what we wanted in the sof...

Canon iP2820 Printer not Working on Rosa

For some reason I had to install my printer about an hour ago. My drives were usable and my mouse and Wacom tablet were left unchanged. But for some reason the printer was uninstalled. So I have it installed with new Linux drivers that I downloaded from Canon and were detected with no problem. Howev...

Re: [NOT solved] Trash shown always empty

Well, I can’t try anything else unless I can find either the configuration file for the trash that tells Linux which icons to use and when, reset the icons to “factory settings”, or both. If this were Windows, I would just go into the registry and fix it. With Linux, even a distro that is supposed t...

Re: [NOT solved] Trash shown always empty

This is the most recent thread on this problem that I have found. I have changed the icons on my desktop, and choosing the ones I like best on a per icon basis. From my observation a lot depends on which set you choose for the trash icon. Right now I am using the Oxygen theme trash icon because I li...

Re: Alternative to Directory List & Print

Thank you for the coding and the link. This should be useful. I never thought about the resolution being different vertically from horizontally. That would account for some images looking stretched and sometimes images are deliberately skewed to make the model look taller, etc. I would need that inf...

Re: Alternative to Directory List & Print

Well, it sort of worked. To start out with identify didn’t use real tabs and it used way too many spaces. Four would have been good. I am using Pluma to change the spaces to tabs, but it’s taking a long time. I need a way to tell it to skip certain subfolders with damaged files and the few text file...

Alternative to Directory List & Print

I went to the Alternative To site and there is nothing as in zero listed there for Linux. Right now I need to make a tab delimited text file of my image collection of over 36,000 images with the width, height and resolution for each. I need to search the root folder and subfolders. I’ve been needing...

Re: Lost Ownership of All Files on External Drives

Well, I noticed that my original options were off quite a bit from what altair4 had started with. So I wound up with the settings like this. For my ext4 drives: /dev/disk/by-id/usb-WD_My_Passport_259F_5758353141423548544A334B-0:0-part2 /media/whitephoenix/Stonehenge auto user, nodev, nofail, noauto 0 0...

Re: Lost Ownership of All Files on External Drives

I am using Rosa, 17.3. So the problem started before 18. It was okay in 17, but I went from Quiana directly to Rosa. Sounds to me as if someone changed something they didn’t intend to when they upgraded the OS. Anyway, I read the thread and I kind of like this suggestion from Altair4. *** By install...

Lost Ownership of All Files on External Drives [Solved]

I have lost ownership of all files on my external drives except one. How do I regain control? I tried “sudo chown -R *” but that did nothing. Everything is still owned by root. Also my text files are now asking me if I want to execute or display them. Isn’t there a way to globally turn off this defa...

Re: Control Center - Desktop Preferences Error

I have been using Linux Mint now for several years. If Caja had screwed up, it was probably my error. PCManFM should be install and nothing else. Any other fiddling is more than I want to deal with. Like the founder of Linux, I dislike maintenance and want to do as little as is needed. I want to spe...

RytronII wrote:Caja is awesome alright. Good choice. :-)
Plus, both were on Mint 17.3 anyway and removing Caja would screw up the whole system. Having both is redundant and you have to jump through hoops to get PCManFM to work properly.

Re: 'Dead' keys not working properly in password

I stand corrected. Rosa is 17.3. This is the US International Layout with Dead Keys . Pressing the single quote key waits until another key is pressed and either creates an acute letter or a straight single quote. Pressing it twice would create the acute accent alone. And the other dead keys for acc...

Thank you, Rytronll. Although, I simply un-installed PCManFM. I can tell no difference in speed and everything works fine with Caja.

Re: 'Dead' keys not working properly in password

I am using Rosa now and the dead keys are still not working in English US International with Dead Keys. I use accents in my writing, but I also program once in a while and I just found out I cannot enter the straight quote now. This is a bug that needs to be fixed. Shouldn’t it have been fixed in 17...

How do you get to Edit? I upgraded to Rosa still using Mate. I had the same problem. i wanted to change the behavior of the window in a new account. Can’t find where to have the window do nothing when you click on the top.

Re: CP 437 Support

Sorry for the late response. I only just found these replies. Notification must have occurred on one of the days I had a lot of email to check. Actually, this is a sample text file I created to set aside the ASCII art that was in the source code of some old text adventure games written using the AGT...

Well, you really should have sent a private message instead of an off-topic post, but since you have ....

No, no problems running 17.1 Quiana at all. Most likely none with the current version of Mint either. I just haven’t gotten around to it.

Re: CP 437 Support

Wrong. I have old text files from old archives. gEdit and Pluma have a drop-down menu for selecting the necessary code pages you need to display the file correctly. Except neither one has 437 as an option. I could convert the files to Unicode, but I have to have them properly displayed first. Here a...

CP 437 Support

Is there any way to add support for codepage 437 in Mint 17 without recompiling the kernel? I will do a lot of things, but screwing with the kernel of any OS is not one of them. Adding languages does not have anything to do with code pages, but apparently in Control Center that is all you have acces...
