Re: Bad video quality

I am watching streaming videos online in such websites as Youtube, Dailymotion, MovPod, GorillaVid, CloudZilla ect. As I said above, never had any problem watching videos on these websites. I've tried the latest pepperflash of Google Chrome but it didn't help, so it doesn't seem to be the older 11.2...

Re: Bad video quality

Thanks DrHu but I don't seem to find a solution in the links you provided. I am a Linux ''newbie'' so I am looking for a clear step-by-step solution to adress this problem. I am not accustomed to the technical side of Linux. ''I don't have that problem on Windows, which I had installed on this compu...

Bad video quality

Hello, I have a problem on Linux Mint (as well as Ubuntu) which is that streaming videos are unwatchable. With the open-source (xserver-xorg-video-ati) driver it's really slow and the video doesn't quite follow the sound and I just can't watch videos of that quality. So I installed the proprietary A...

Re: Will Linux Mint fall behind in hardware detections?

First of all thank you very much karlchen for your answer. Very appreciated. I just have a new question following part of your reply to make sure I understand clearly: If I understand the new Linux Mint concept right, then this is going to change. This means that when Ubuntu 14.04 will receive servi...

Will Linux Mint fall behind in hardware detections?

Hi, I've read that Linux Mint will from now on be using Ubuntu 14.04 as a basis for it's next releases until 16.06. I find it's a very interesting idea to use a stable base and focus on Mint itself but it raises some concerns about future hardware detections. The whole point of going from 14.04 to 1...

Re: Installing a driver for a Samsung ML 3710ND printer

The Software Manager and Synaptic Package Manager have never worked. I tried those four commands a while ago (on the advice of the people I bought the machine from) and they made no difference to the various problems. I'll give them another go but it looks very much as if I shall have to grasp the ...

Re: AMD/ATI Graphics Card Drivers

AMD Radeon HD Cards do not seem to work well with the open-source driver. I do have a Radeon HD 6290 and experienced chopiness and wavy lines watching online streaming vdeos. The proprietary driver solved the problem though it may alter the Linux mint splashboot screen.

Mint 16 Xfce + Cairo-Dock = Awesomness

Hi, I purchased an asus laptop with 4gb RAM AMD vision proc and 320gb HDD and decided to go for the lightwieght Xfce 64 bit desktop instead of cinnamon. I added a sidebar and widgets with cairo-dock to make it look like Ubuntu (which I came from) and wow! This is a pretty system for a laptop. Much f...

Email services provider

I am looking for a new email provider, free of course and I am open to your suggestions.

There are many out there such as:

GMail
Outlook
Yahoo
Mail
GMX
Mailoo

I've read mitigated review for all these services, except perhaps Gmail which seems to be praised by all of it's users.

Re: Why Linux Mint is the best distro I've seen.

Great post JohnBobSmith. Xfce is a lightweight desktop environment for UNIX-like operating systems. It aims to be fast and low on system resources, while still being visually appealing and user friendly. From http://www.xfce.org/ Yep it seems that Xfce is meant to be that way. I couldn't get any inf...

Re: Why Linux Mint is the best distro I've seen.

I couldn't get the sounds or the keyboard layouts to work properly on any OS with LXDE. But my computer has older hardwares and isn't what LXDE is for? Anyway, XFCE seems to offer reasonable perfomance so far. But I do not know about MATE, is it really lighweight and fitting for a 1GB, 1,8 Intel pen...

Re: Public PCs having to drop XP... migrate to Mint?

And so is Chrome OS in the Chromebooks who become more and more popular for cloud computing. But how many people actually know it's based on Linux? I think it is fair to say that Windows and Mac dominates the desktop and laptop environment. Anyway, in order for Linux to make it's way, in say the pub...

Re: Public PCs having to drop XP... migrate to Mint?

If I can speak for my own town in North America, I would say there is no chance today that Linux make it's way in the public place. Most computer technician to be hired doesn't offer services for Linux at all, only Windows and Mac. Also, if I take the public library, they've networks to set of Inter...

Re: What if Linux Mint moved away from Ubuntu?

As a Linux newbie, I would prefer that it remains based on Ubuntu. The installation process of Ubuntu is so much easy and painless for the beginners. That's very important. Also, we have access to all that is compatible to Ubuntu which is great. Mint as grown as a distro of it's own, not just a spin...

Why Linux Mint is the best distro I've seen.

Hi, For weeks I've looked for a Linux distro suitable for my aging 1GB RAM 80 gig HDD, pentium 4 1.8 GHZ proc desktop computer. I mostly do things on the cloud with it. I've tried various flavor of LXDE such as Lubuntu, Perppermint OS, LXLE, Fedora, Zorin OS Lite and encountered keyboard and sound i...
