So I go to the Software Mgr and download an app, then I go to Package Mgr and install it.

Then I go the Applications in the Main Menu and it's not there.

What did I do wrong? How do I do it right?

It was the ext4 that did it! I had tried and tried and couldn't work it out.

Have Mint 10 installed with windows 7 - love it!

Have created a second "primary" partition (200 gigs) and wish to install mint 10 in it.

1. How do I do that?

2. How do I boot to it on start up?

In 1965 the Univac mainframe was BIG (big room size) and had less power than a cell phone - sheesh!

I have an HP Netbook with a (TINY) 16 gig hd.

I wish to install Mint 10 on it using the entire hd. Of course no cd/dvd drive.

How do I do it? Please be detailed.

Amazing, I was brought up working for Univac (who??)

NO, simplescan won't work.

Just open a terminal and type - scangearmp and voila! you'll get scan window

Oh and open Control Center, select "Printing", make MP495 default.

That's it - I think, mayhaps, I hope, could be ...........

Re: the "in terminal" installation.

Methinks, you think too much. As I remember (with my very old, cluttered mind) I merely, for the most part, accepted the default entries and hoped for the best. It worked.

WELLLLLLLL - try Right Click, Properties (at the bottom)," Open With" tab, Select "Autorun Prompt".

That's how mine is set up. By default of course. I could NEVER have figured it out on my own.

DOH! SORRY - Double click on install.sh and you will see the "Run in terminal" choice.

Right click on install.sh file and one of the choices is "Open in terminal" - Click it - and BINGO, just follow the prompts.

Did same with scangearmp-mp495series-1.60-1-deb . Went to "terminal" typed scangearmp and NOW MY SCANNER WORKS

On my old box (with mint 9) with a 29.95 printer it worked "out of the box". Guess I need to downgrade pc & printer

Levono H Series desktop with Canon MP495 hard wired, running Mint 10 within win 7. Printer recognized (in "setup printer" - but NOT when I try to print) ) but not the drivers. When I try to boot the canon disk - no go. Searching for the drivers with disk in drive d doesn't work. Please hel...

BTW you get the same option if you boot the Kubuntu "live" while running XP. But if you do it - it replaces the Mint installation.

No. If you boot the "live disk" while XP is running you get an option to create a folder within windows that gives you the option at boot to go to LinuxMint or XP.
Works fine.
