What the heck - I had a backup of my home folder so I just reinstalled 17.3. Much fresher and cleaner.

Re: 17.3 Mate boot problem
I ctrl-alt-t and AHA got a terminal - sudo startx and got that darn kde based desktop which does NOT seem to give the "login required" thingee. When I logout it just returns me to the terminal.
Progress but no help so far in getting back to my linux mint mate desktop.

SOLVED: Re: Will not install
YES!! Delete key brings up BIOs which includes boot order. I booted to a usb installer and ir worked fine. Installed 17.3.
Obviously there is something wrong with the dvd reader.

Re: Will not install
Yes it's mint4win. I only used that because I couldn't get mint 17 to load on boot. I'm going to cease attempting to install mint until I can get into bios to see if indeed the problem is therein. I can't attempt to do so until later today. I'll get back with results later. Thank you ALL very much f...

Re: Will not install
I'm lost as to your terminology sorry, when you installed you would have had the choice of install alongside windows, or something else, the 'something else' would have sent you off to manually partition and choose which partition or drive to tell the installer to put mint. Other than that if you u...
