Re: login but no account yet

I noticed this strange behavior too when installing Mint 17.2 on another HP laptop.
While thinking what to do, the login screen suddenly disappeared and the install proceeded normally.
What Pierre says: This took some 10 - 15 seconds.

Re: Your opinions on Windows 10 so far..

Most of the time I'm on Mint 17.2, but I nevertheless upgraded from Windows version 8.1 to version 10. To my surprise I even got Paint Shop Pro 8 (released in 2003) working. Not bad at all. On the other hand, I mainly use Windows for backing up all partitions from time to time. It's not really my &q...

Re: Set up wifi repeater

You might want to change the radio channel on the router. Do not use channels above 11.
I know from experience that these high channels can cause problems on Mint.

Re: Linux Mint 17.2 Cinnamon and problem with AMD A8 7410 AP

You might want to try to change the video driver. That greatly improved the speed of my HP laptop.
Just run the Driver Manager en choose the second best driver (fgirx-updates).

In Update Manager I now see a new version of module 'passwd'. Could there be a connection with this problem?

Chrome passwords gone

After upgrading to Mint 17.2 XFCE suddenly all my Chrome passwords were gone. I used my latest backup
to roll back and tried the upgrade again. However, again the same behavior. All my Chrome passwords
were gone again. Is this a bug in Mint 17.2 or am I doing something wrong?

Re: I need help about grub rescue mistake

eemuhendisi As soon as you turn on the laptop, you have to quickly press a funtion key in order to access the BIOS. That key could be 'esc' of F2 or F9 or F12. That differs from laptop to laptop. Next you will have to change the boot order in BIOS so that the machine will boot from the Windows DVD. ...

Re: Install Freeze

Hi Fixador,

I cannot seem to detect a suitable partition for installing Linux. Could you post a summary of your hard disk?
When running under XP, you might want to use MiniTool Partition Wizard to produce such a summary.

Re: Mint 17.2 Kernel upgrade issue!

Joe, I once had the same issue when running Mint13 and Mint17 on my pc. It took me not long to found out that you cannot have two captains on one ship, so to speak. One of the distributions has to be in charge for updating the Grub boot manager. Laurent85 is absolutely right concerning this matter. ...

Re: Unable to login after upgrade to 17.2

When the login screen returns again and again, it could be a problem with the Grub boot manager. You might want to try
to re-install it. There are a number of pages on the net explaining how to do that.

Re: Delete XP Partition from Dual Boot?

Well, I don't want to sound weak or soft, but I'm afraid you have managed to kill your system alltogether. Removing a Windows XP partiition is simple a matter of deleting it, and then running Grub Customizer to modify the boot Grub menu. Besides that, it's always better to use UUID numbers for your ...

Did someone mention the Boor Repair program allready? Personally I never needed it, but it seems to work ok in most cases.

Re: Secure boot after installing LM 17.1

Same here. I think Mint (Ubuntu) can handle secure boot. However, you might want to keep an eye out
for BIOS updates from the manufacturer. This has to do with the upcoming release of Windows 10.

Re: Realtek RTL8188EE slows up every 2 minutes or even stops

I think that this is a known problem with this card. It seems to work much better under Windows8 than
under Linux Mint. Perhaps it helps to switch over to another WiFi channel and/or to move closer to the router.

Strange case that re-installing Grub does not solve the problem. Do you at least have access to Windows 7? If not, use the 'fixmbr' command to create a new MBR. After that Windows will boot and you can also try to re-install Grub again in the new MBR. Here's some info about the 'fixmbr' command: htt...

Re: How I got rid of the "ubuntu" entry on UEFI boot menu!

Here's another method (I used it on several dual-boot machines): 1) Log in to Windows as administrator 2) Assign a drive letter to the EFI-partition. 3) Now you have access to the EFI partition and you can simply delete the entire Ubuntu folder. 4) Reboot Believe it or not, but it is that simple... ...

It seems you lost your Windows partition. Do you have a full backup available?
If not, I'm afraid you have no other choice that to re-install Windows.
