Re: Install Freeze

Hi Fixador,

I cannot seem to detect a suitable partition for installing Linux. Could you post a summary of your hard disk?
When running under XP, you might want to use MiniTool Partition Wizard to produce such a summary.

Joe,

This is not a paid Helpdesk. You might want to show a little bit more respect and gratitude
for the volunteers who are willing and able to help you out.

Re: Mint 17.2 Kernel upgrade issue!

Joe, I once had the same issue when running Mint13 and Mint17 on my pc. It took me not long to found out that you cannot have two captains on one ship, so to speak. One of the distributions has to be in charge for updating the Grub boot manager. Laurent85 is absolutely right concerning this matter. ...

Re: Unable to login after upgrade to 17.2

When the login screen returns again and again, it could be a problem with the Grub boot manager. You might want to try
to re-install it. There are a number of pages on the net explaining how to do that.

Re: Delete XP Partition from Dual Boot?

Well, I don't want to sound weak or soft, but I'm afraid you have managed to kill your system alltogether. Removing a Windows XP partiition is simple a matter of deleting it, and then running Grub Customizer to modify the boot Grub menu. Besides that, it's always better to use UUID numbers for your ...

Re: Delete XP Partition from Dual Boot?

Did someone mention the Boor Repair program allready? Personally I never needed it, but it seems to work ok in most cases.

Re: Secure boot after installing LM 17.1

Same here. I think Mint (Ubuntu) can handle secure boot. However, you might want to keep an eye out
for BIOS updates from the manufacturer. This has to do with the upcoming release of Windows 10.

Re: Realtek RTL8188EE slows up every 2 minutes or even stops

I think that this is a known problem with this card. It seems to work much better under Windows8 than
under Linux Mint. Perhaps it helps to switch over to another WiFi channel and/or to move closer to the router.

Re: Help to boot normally. (Accidentaly started Windows reco

Strange case that re-installing Grub does not solve the problem. Do you at least have access to Windows 7? If not, use the 'fixmbr' command to create a new MBR. After that Windows will boot and you can also try to re-install Grub again in the new MBR. Here's some info about the 'fixmbr' command: htt...

Re: How I got rid of the "ubuntu" entry on UEFI boot menu!

Here's another method (I used it on several dual-boot machines): 1) Log in to Windows as administrator 2) Assign a drive letter to the EFI-partition. 3) Now you have access to the EFI partition and you can simply delete the entire Ubuntu folder. 4) Reboot Believe it or not, but it is that simple... ...

It seems you lost your Windows partition. Do you have a full backup available?
If not, I'm afraid you have no other choice that to re-install Windows.

Re: Dual boot with Windows; bootloader doesn't see Linux

On certain HP laptops the machine will always boot Windows8, even when GRUB was installed using the right procedure. In that case you will have to interrupt the boot proces using the Esc button. In the menu that follows you then choose for Boot Device Options (probably F9). Next you will be able to ...

Re: ASUS laptop suitable for LM?

My advice would be to create two partitions via Windows: the first being 40 GB, the second only 4 GB (for swap). Turn secure boot of in BIOS, but leave the UEFI settings alone. During install it is important that the installer places the boot procedure in the EFI-partition. This is normally a small-...

I always look in Update Manager for the latest kernel. Currently I'm on 3.16.0-29. The kernel works great with Mint 17.1
You don't want to miss out on important security fixes etc.

Allocating or deleting partitions can change device numbers as well. It's better to use UUID numbers in the FSTAB configuration file.
These numbers will normally never change.

Once a week I switch to Windows in order to backup the entire system. I'm using Acronis True Image for that purpose.
