Re: Incd formatted discs

How do you format a blank rewritable disc with the UDF filesystem in Linux Mint, in stead of using Nero's InCD under Windows?

Re: Firefox is now a Level 5 update?

When I start Firefox after booting of Linux Mint 17.3 Xfce, I get a message that Firefox has not been set as a default browser and I have to confirm this each time I start Firefox after booting. What can I do to resolve this problem?

Re: [SOLVED] LibreOffice 5 (options menu not working)

I would wait with installing LibreOffice 5.0 until a bug-fix is released for LibreOffice 5.0. Remember, every new major version of a package will contain bugs which are fixed by subsequent bug-fixes and updates.

64-bit runtime module for 64-bit apps under 32-bit Linux.

In the mid-nineties there used to be the Win32s runtime module to run 32-bit Windows programs under 16-bit Windows 3.xx, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Win32s . It was in the era when Windows 95 was developed, some features of that OS were backported to Windows 3.11 and 32-bit applications were on...

Re: Is Linux Secure or Vulnerable?

I think that Linux is indeed vulnerable for cross-platform Java and Flash scripts which are run in the webbrowser. A good idea is to check your Linux installation with Kaspersky's Rescue Disc which can be downloaded at ftp://devbuilds.kaspersky-labs.com/rescuedisk/updatable/ or Avira Scan...

Re: do i really need an antivirus software on linux mint ?

At least you should disable Java and Flash in your webbrowser, or set them to "ask to activate" in the browser's add-on list. Malware often use Flash and Java to infect your PC, malware written for Flash and Java are platform independent. In Linux your /home/<username> folder can be infected with ma...

Re: How do I add NTFS4DOS to the grub menu?

I'm not clear on what your goals are with NTFS in general. Linux can handle NTFS filesystems no problem. As far as what you asked, you want to add a Grub option for a bootable disk image? Normally would burn this img file to a CD/DVD and then bootup the computer from this disc to run it. Are you wa...

How do I add NTFS4DOS to the grub menu?

I have the utility program NTFS4DOS, developed by Avira, which can be downloaded at http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/Avira-NTFS4DOS-Personal.shtml . Ntfs4dos can be used to check disks with the NTFS filesystem. I have the bootable file ntfs4dos.img which contains this program. How...

Re: Help. menulibre and whisker menu Mint 17 xfce

A very strange problem. Uninstalling with "sudo apt-get purge menulibre" and installing it again with "sudo apt-get install menulibre" does not help.

At http://askubuntu.com/questions/430230/gnome-menu-broken I read the following to fix this problem, you have to remove the ~/.config/menus/.

Where is the best place to report a bug? I have found a serious one that affects not only Xfce 17 RC, but also MATE 17 and Cinnamon 17 releases. This is a show stopper for me. It was not present in LM 16 Xfce. What is this serious bug which was not present in LM 16 Xfce? It must be reported, otherw...

I like the XFCE-edition of Linux Mint, because it is much less resources-hungry than Mate and Cinnamon editions are , especially when using older hardware.

But Rsync does not pack the files into one compressed archive file like SBackup does. A compressed archive file takes less disk space.

When I am on Debian, I use Debian software. When I am on Windows, I use Windows software (or I boot on a Linux live-media) In my very own opinion, if you still want/have to use Windows software on a Linux distro, then you are indeed not ready to use a Linux distro. I mentioned Wine as an ...

Software in many distros is often very outdated.

Another example of an older version of a program in the Linux Mint 16 repos is Wine. At http://wiki.winehq.org/HowTo I read the following: Before you install Wine, make sure that there is no previous Wine installation on your system, either from a package or from source. If you haven't yet installed...

Re: quick and easy backup solution

sbackup is in the Mint repos. Remember to always use first software stored in repos before lurking around on the Internet . Only repos have stable, signed, tested and certified software for your distribution (PPAs are not part of the official repos). There may exist newer versions for whatever purp...
