Re: Google search in MintMenu

It doesn't really have a place in the menu though. Do is an extremely useful tool and is also self-explanatory, as is Deskbar.

Re: Why not incorporate a usable firewall into Linux Mint?

What do you mean by "set up" and "configure"? For 99% of users opening the Mint firewall and checking enable is more than enough.

Re: Linux is Not Windows

Nick_Djinn, Before you make any other posts on this subject please take Fred's advice and learn something. Linux's mission is not "destroy Windows" no matter how many times you say it is. All too often in Linux forums there are people like you making blind arguments without any actual knowledge of t...

Re: Linux is Not Windows

Nick_Djinn, I'm not going to take the time to craft a lengthly response like the others, but I will say one thing about this: Your pessimism isnt shared by the developers. Assuming we're talking about Mint, I don't think you know very much about the developers. At least not compared to many others i...

Re: Isadora not honoring gnome-power-manager

It seemed very strange to me when it happened as well. I've tried every tweak possible using GPM, but I haven't tried gconf yet. I'll give that a go and report back.

EDIT: Sorry! It wasn't removing flash that removed GPM, it was removing notify-osd (I like to apply a workaround to move the bubble).

Delete that tarball, open a terminal, and enter this:

Isadora not honoring gnome-power-manager

Hey everyone, After uninstalling flashplugin-nonfree, Mint also took out gnome-power-manager (not sure why they would be bound, but w/e). Not a problem I thought, I'll just reinstall. So I reinstalled with no problems, but now the settings in GPM aren't being honored by Mint. No matter how I change ...

Re: Tabs in Nautilus

Seeing as nautilus won't even let you drag two windows together in order to condense them into tabs, I have a feel that this may not be possible with nautilus in its current state. I could be mistaken but I wouldn't be overly optimistic.

Have you checked the Sound Preferences window (in the control center) for what you're trying to accomplish?

Re: Linux is Not Windows

Also, I couldn't help but think.. It really took you that long to figure out how to click "Menu" then click "Firefox"?

I'm not trying to be disparaging, I'm just wondering how you could've possibly been confused about how to start a program that is clearly listed in the menu of applications.

I know you said you tried the commands, but open up a terminal and copy and paste this into it:

Code: Select all

apt install adobe-flashplugin

There's really no point in waiting now that the stable version has been released. If you're going to upgrade anyway you might as well do it now. It's running beautifully for me :)

Re: What are you most dissatisfied with in Linux Mint?

MALsPA, I'm not really sure if it can. It could be possible if the OS never ran the fan or something along those lines, but Linux definitely doesn't do that. It could just be a perceived difference that doesn't actually exist. The actual "problem" is usually very nebulous when people talk about over...

Re: What are you most dissatisfied with in Linux Mint?

I most dislike that a thorn in the side of some distros is heat. All the *buntus and Mint 8 and 9 have serious issues with heat on many users' machines, evident by a quick search of both the Mint and Ubuntu forums. This has been ongoing for several iterations but not addressed in any reasonable way...
