Re: Where are the programs?

That's odd. Right click the panel (in an open spot), click add to panel, and add MintMenu :)

Re: How do I add a volume control to a panel.

You can just add the command to your startup programs and it'll run automatically.

Re: How do I add a volume control to a panel.

I have a similar issue. If log in with a normal Compiz/metacity/gnome-panel/nautilus session I have the control but if I use gnome-shell the control is missing. Either way the fix should be the same. To add the control to the current session use the following command in a terminal or from the alt+F...

Re: How do I add a volume control to a panel.

For some strange reason (related to Gnome, not Mint), the volume control applet is coupled in with the "notification area." Adding that to your panel should give you back volume control.

Re: FIREWALLS FOR LINUX MINT

Uh.. What version of Mint are you using? sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-stable should definitely work. I notice you're already in a root prompt.. I don't see why it would make a difference but try running this out of a normal user prompt or omitting the sudo if you must work in a ro...

That's actually not a bad idea at all. Perhaps the dev team will look into it if they take notice here.

Re: Clem please read!

If Fred somehow gets in on this I think all of North Carolina will be converted to Linux in a matter of weeks! Ok, only joking, but this seems like a good idea with a decent starting point. I can't say I'm overly optimistic about it (bureaucracy is... difficult to overcome), but making people aware ...

Re: Reinstall GRUB No Command line

Sorry.. downloading and burning an entire new CD? Maybe if the user lost their live CD, this method is somewhat feasible. If a user has their original live CD, there is simply no comparison between this method and the CLI method: Boot the live CD. When the LIVE CD loads open a terminal. If you do no...

Re: What is the best way to install the latest stable Chromi

vincent,
I would suggest you take a look at his other posts.. If this were just a simple answer to the question I wouldn't have said a word. GUIs have their place, and Tweak actually isn't bad in this case.

Re: FIREWALLS FOR LINUX MINT

"spewing filth" oh dont be such a silly little boy, I mention a simple case in which it is actually far simpler to use an app instead of several lines of text input & text editing (assuming the app is already installed of course). The "spewing filth" was more related to your Ubuntu Tweak evangelism...

Re: What is the best way to install the latest stable Chromi

Actually by far the fastest & easiest way to get the latest stable Chrome browser is by using Ubuntu Tweak http://ubuntu-tweak.com/ you can also get loads of apps and app sources listed as either ppa's for testing or 'stable' ppa's or repo's, if you ask me its a damn site better than typing a load ...

Re: Please help me install the latest Firefox

viper2 better still use Ubuntu Tweak, rather than go to absurd lengths as above  here you go pal http://ubuntu-tweak.com/ you will see that this amazing app will let you add all sorts of apps and sources, some are for testing like cutting edge ppa's but there are many 'stable' sources and bui...

but if you ask a user here how to you get an idiotic 3 paragraphs of unintuitive gibberish to type into a terminal instead of 3 mouse clicks............so whose laughing??    There are very limited cases in which using a GUI is faster or more efficient than using a terminal com...

Re: where is the taskmanager??

I know you said you weren't interested in the command line, but I just thought I should post this so that you know how easy it is to do this using the terminal. All you have to do is open one up and type pkill <name of process> That's it. So, for your case earlier today, all you would have to do is ...

Re: How does a noobie install Sigil (ebook program) onto Min

It's quite easy actually. Use the terminal to cd into the directory containing the bin, then just run

Code: Select all

sudo chmod +x <filename>
sudo ./<filename>

Works for me. Have you changed anything that could be affecting the search? Or are you perhaps not executing the search correctly? Also, what version of Mint are you using, etc. We need much more information.

Re: C# vs. others

One does not need to have much work experience to realize how horrible development in C is. Even a small team project at school will teach you, that just dividing the code into functions is not enough to collaborate efficiently even in a small two-person team. That is why I was quite surprised that...
