Re: Cinnamon crash

I did a clean install of 18.2 but I still see Cinnamon crash from time to time. Nothing regular or predictable. I have Intel graphics.

I just noticed that the cursor in Chrome (at least the latest version) is now the same size as anywhere else in Cinnamon.

Re: Backlit usb keyboard, mint-friendly?

I have the following backlit USB keyboards and both work perfectly with Mint:
Logitech K740 wired USB keyboard
Logitech K800 wireless USB keyboard
No issues with either one. Mint recognizes and uses them without any input from me.

Re: CUPS update 2.1.3-4ubuntu0-2 produces error [SOLVED]

I faced the same problem and after trying all the suggestions without any resolution, I just did a reinstall of Mint to resolve my lack of printing.

Re: Cinnamon high CPU usage in Mint 18

I sometimes see high CPU usage with Cinnamon but only when I have Chrome at the Google homepage and they have an animated doodle. It usually takes a second or two and the CPU fan turns on. Just a normal page with the "Google" and just a few CPU percent for Cinnamon. I think it is also related to my ...

Re: Logitech Keyboard and Mouse problem

I went through this earlier in the year but with the K800 keyboard and MX Anywhere 2 mouse. The answer I came up with was that there was no way to use both a USB wireless keyboard and USB wireless mouse together. I could use a wired USB keyboard and wireless USB mouse (or vice versa) or (what I am u...

Re: [Mint 18] HiDPI support in Mint 18, is it ok?

I am running HiDPI in Mint 18 Cinnamon (previously 17.3) on an external Samsung 590 at 3840 x 2160 without any issues. My graphics is Intel integrated i7-4600 on a Lenovo X1 Carbon gen 2. Must use HDMI cable for that resolution (30 hz).

I went through this when I first installed Mint 18 with my Brother MFC-8480DN. Re: Mouse lag

I see this same behavior but it took a bit to sort things out. First I was having issues between my Logitech wireless USB mouse and Logitech wireless USB keyboard. I initially had a jerky mouse but also a keyboard that would randomly start typing on its own. I switched the USB mouse to a bluetooth m...

Re: desktop environment freezing except mouse

I noticed that Intel just released their most recent Linux installer for their graphics chipsets in the past week. Is this recommended or not to install? I thought I had tried this late last year when I first started experiencing these desktop freezes and it had no impact. I have installed patches m...

Thank you. I did the install and hope for the best. I actually had gone almost a week with out a freeze and then had 3 incidents yesterday. One while just doing the new Firefox update through the update manager.

Re: Cinnamon crashing randomly

Disabling visual effects did not stop the freezing on my system. One thing I have discovered recently is that when Cinnamon freezes I can CTRL-ALT-F1 to the console and immediately CTRL-ALT-F8 back to Cinnamon and it is unfrozen. No need to log in and then kill a process to get things running again....

Re: 17.1 Cinnamon is intermittently unresponsive

I have days when Cinnamon responds as it should all day long. Other days it freezes up constantly. I rarely vary my daily routines so it has been confusing when it stops working. When it does freeze, it appears that if I CTRL-ALT-F1 and kill any Gnome application I have loaded even if it is minimize...

Re: All windows are not responding

The suggestion: austin.texas wrote: "Refresh Cinnamon" can be done a couple of ways. Alt-F2 > r right-click on the Panel > Troubleshoot > Refresh Cinnamon Does not work when my system freezes. My only recourse is to Ctrl-Alt-F1, kill the app I last used, Ctrl-Alt-F8. Then the Alt-F2 > r works but no...

Re: GUI stop responding to anything

I disabled hardware acceleration in x64 Chrome and it froze still. I could ctr-alt-f1, kill Chrome, ctr-alt-f8 back and resume work. I still observe that freezes occur when I use the mouse scroll wheel with Chrome. Instead of re-installing Mint 17, I just installed Mate and switch to it when I get t...

I have installed all the Flash plugin updates including one just yesterday and I still have had a freeze since then. So it isn't the only cause of the freezes.

Re: GUI stop responding to anything

I too have been encountering this problem but only since Mint 17.1 and the latest Cinnamon version. On a Thinkpad W520 with Nvidia it freezes for a time but always resumes after about 30 seconds. On a Thinkpad X1 Carbon (gen 2 with Intel HD 4400 graphics) it always freezes solid as described above b...
