Re: Replace HDD by SSD? Anything to pay attention to?
As to names: no, you wouldn't be able to change names like "sda" and "sdb"; they are kernel-assigned and depend only on discovery order: if your SSD will be the only SATA device then it will be "sda" in the same manner as now your HDD is. When I talked about "chan...

Re: Replace HDD by SSD? Anything to pay attention to?
If dd is too slow, what other tool would you recommend instead? As for the "names", what I meant was sda, sdb, sdc, ... etc... The copied UUID's shouldn't matter (hopefully!) since it is only a replacement of the drive, and the old HDD is not intended for further usage within the notebook....

Replace HDD by SSD? Anything to pay attention to?
I've got a HP 250 G5 notebook with a 1TB HDD inside, which I want to replace with a 1TB SSD in order to make the notebook faster. Since it is a multi boot system with Win10 and two Ubuntu 18.04 based distros (all of them are 64 bit), I think I'm probably going to do it by purchasing a HDD/SSD case w...

Re: LM 19.3 MATE 64bit - Skype update failing
When I try the 1st one, there's no Skype or skypeforlinux package available, and the deb is the same version as the installed one. So looks like there is no update, it's just the repo which is not available anymore. I removed both the stable repo and the partner repo, but now I wonder, how do I get ...

LM 19.3 MATE 64bit - Skype update failing
There's skypeformint installed on my computer. While updating Mint with the ordinary update manager, the update for Skype is failing and it all began yesterday. I'm getting an error message saying... https://repo.skype.com/deb/dists/stable/InRelease 504 Gateway Time-out [IP: 23.213.164.171 443]. How...

Re: LM 19.3 MATE 64bit - How to install ClipGrab 3.8.11, please?
I know, it is not available, but why not?
Other distros do offer it already, why not Mint?

LM 19.3 MATE 64bit - How to install ClipGrab 3.8.11, please?
I'm used to install ClipGrab like this: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:clipgrab-team/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install clipgrab Now, ClipGrab 3.8.11 is the latest one, but I cannot install it (only 3.8.10). This version is not available via PPA and the according AppImage won't run either. Wh...

LM 19.3 MATE 64bit - How to switch java version with a script, please?
On my Mint, there are Java 8 and 11 installed and 11 is default. I also installed Open Visual Traceroute 1.7.1 , which needs Java 8 to be able to run. So far, I toggle the Java version with the following command: sudo update-alternatives --config java This is circumstantially, unfortunately. That's ...

Re: Grub entries on multi boot pointing to two partitions
By "Something like this" I was trying to say that this line is an example for some more lines like that one. The relevant part of that line is the two partitions. Meanwhile this topic is solved, because I found out, Grub Customizer was causing this issue. Obviously, Grub Customizer just do...

Re: LM 19.3 MATE 64bit - IP cam viewer wanted!
...such as how to get past the login page. ... Exactly! That's the big question. For example, if you want to access a NAS, you often just enter something like user:password@{NAS-URL-or-IP}:port and you are done. But in this case, it doesn't work like that. So, the goal of this topic is to find a sy...

LM 19.3 MATE 64bit - How to define own shortcuts for Kodi?
By means of this keymap.xml file, see post 16, (must be added to ~/.kodi/userdata/keymaps ), I was able to adjust volume for live tv within Kodi. Now, I would like to add two more shortcuts like this: Ctrl+mousewheelup -> change program upwards Ctrl+mousewheeldown -> change program downwards Does an...

LM 19.3 MATE 64bit - IP cam viewer wanted!
I've got an IP cam which I usually access via Firefox from within my local network. The URL looks like this: http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:yyyy/desktop/index_framed.htm The x's are representing the local ip of that cam and the y's are standing for the port number. So, when I access the cam, a login page is...

Re: LM 19.3 MATE 64bit - VNC with vino and remmina - Black screen
Finally, I managed to fix it. It was all about the proper version of the wifi driver. I used version 5.6.4.2 recently, which didn't allow me to establish a VNC connection. After going back to 5.2.20.2 , VNC is working again. Now, I'm curious about what makes the difference between these two versions...

Re: How to get the time, and day back in the panel
In most Desktop Environments it will be this easy. In Cinnamon, however, you right click the panel and choose "Applets" and it is the Calendar applet that displays this info. You probably have to reset any custom time format you may have had. I wasn't sure about what it's like on the othe...

Re: How to get the time, and day back in the panel
What's your desktop?
MATE? Cinnamon? Xfce? LXDE? KDE?
Just in case, it's MATE:
Right-click the panel, hit "Add to panel" and choose "Clock" from the list.

[SOLVED] LM 19.3 MATE 64bit - VNC with vino and remmina - Black screen
Remmina seems to be faulty, lately. Because I got only a black screen within remmina lately, I recreated a connection from my LM 19.3 MATE 64bit desktop computer to a netbook with Bodhi Linux 5.1-32bit installed. So I updated remmina on both machines. Now, both of them have v ino installed and remmi...

That command is giving me a huuuuuge amount of data.
Got no idea, what's the relevant section of that output.
