Re: Use a USB 3G Modem when Booting from USB drive?

is that your only internet access? No wireless? No ethernet? That would make it difficult to install a proprietary driver - if one is needed. Open the Network Manager and see if you can connect. You can enter this command in a terminal inxi -Fx and also the command lsusb Please post the results her...

Re: Use a USB 3G Modem when Booting from USB drive?

Good morning, Would have got to this sooner but I had an issue, with FingerPrint Reader software conflicting with Internet Exploder 11 in my Windows 8.1 Professional environment, that was causing excessive CPU usage and making things Warm and hence running the fan at high speed. Ask me if you want t...

Use a USB 3G Modem when Booting from USB drive?

Hi Folks,

Last night was my first time with Linux Mint 16 KDE. :)

It booted fine from the USB drive.

Is it possible to access and configure a USB 3G Modem when Booting from a USB drive?

Thanks, Michael.

Re: USB 3 External Hard Drive Recommendations

I have a Toshiba 500 GB usb 3.0 portable hard drive. Model 593500-A, 5400 rpm. I love it. In order to transfer files to/from my Windows computer at the office, I installed Mint 13 in the first partition, making it bootable. So I have no need for any NTFS partitions - they are all ext4. Hi austin.te...

Re: USB 3 External Hard Drive Recommendations

Ok, I should have explained this also. I want to create several partitions on the External Drive. At the least, I probably want 2 NTFS and 2 ext4 parititions for backing up System Image files and Data for both Windows and Linux Mint. I think the following page will supply the solution I am seeking b...

Re: USB 3 External Hard Drive Recommendations

Hi gtsfer,

I should have mentioned that I want to use it for both Windows 8.1 Professional and Linux Mint.

How did you reformat it to get rid of the backup software?

Thanks, Michael.

USB 3 External Hard Drive Recommendations

Hi Folks, I've been investigating the options for using a USB 3 External Hard Drive as a Backup Medium as you get a lot more space for your currency than a USB Flash Drive. The local options, I have available, are the Samsung M3 Portable 1TB and the WD My Passport Ultra 1TB. However, they both appea...

Hi Guys,

What Backup Media do you recommend?

Would SD cards or USB Flash drives be sufficiently reliable?

Thanks, Michael.

Re: Installation and Partitioning Questions - First Time Use

The only point in having the 2 / partitions is so you can have an empty partition where you will install Mint 17 (or any other linux or OS). You would not use that partition for anything when you install Mint 16 - only when you install Mint 17. That would work just like any dual-boot system. When y...

Re: Installation and Partitioning Questions - First Time Use

Hi Guys, Thanks for all the feedback. More reading to do, Arrgghh, but the end of the tunnel seems closer :) I like the idea of having 2 / (root) partitions. How do you manage having 2 / partitions? Do you give them different names or do you mount both partitions to / ? Does the Boot Manager give yo...
