Re: Android phone doesn't show up anymore...

---- Days later ---- Me again. Just to say tickling the USB hub kernel module doesn't solve the problem after all, it was a apparently a coincidence it worked the first time. At least I haven't been able to repeat it since. :( And Bluetooth is somehow "disabled" on my Mint 17.3... The Blue...

Re: Android phone doesn't show up anymore...

If it doesn't show up in lsusb results when plugged in there is probably something wrong with the USB port on the phone since you tried different cables. It's definitely a possibility but I hope it's not a hardware problem. I can't afford to buy a new phone right now. That been said, read my reply ...

Re: Android phone doesn't show up anymore...

You didn't include that info the first time, what do you mean by again??? It was a joke, because he's always asking for that information. Sorry. I've had some issues with USB ports on my 17.3 laptop and it's the internal one Okay, but how do you debug that one? It's not like I can change it. Instal...

Re: Android phone doesn't show up anymore...

Have you checked if USB is turned on in Android? What happens if you turn on developer mode and plug it in? I don't think you can switch USB completely off in my version of Android (4.x...), at least I don't recall having ever seen that option, and I have this phone since 2012... If it is indeed po...

Re: Android phone doesn't show up anymore...

I almost always ask Don't worry, it was just a joke... Do not use passive USB hubs, hubs without their own power supply... I don't use any external hubs, my laptop has 4 (!) USB ports. (Yes, it's back from the time where more was more...) your computer's CPU is 64-bit. You should be runni...

Note that if I plug a normal USB stick or hard drive in, it still shows up as usual. It's just the phone which doesn't anymore.

See above for the inxi.

Tried another port, same result.
Didn't try another computer since I don't have any available.

Android phone doesn't show up anymore...

Situation For years, when I plugged my android phone (Samsung Note 2) to the USB cable, the computer made a sound, I had a little pop-up window telling me it couldn't load the device, then immediately the file manager popped up with a view of the phone's volumes (internal/SD). Since some time this ...

Re: File/folder names containing spaces in terminal? [solved]

The magical TAB key. Yes, I know about it, but I didn't think to use it in this case, given the fact I wanted to put that link in a launcher command line, so it opens a file manager window on that specific folder (I've to open constantly lately, and navigating there every time is a pain due to the ...

Re: File/folder names containing spaces in terminal?

Best of all: DON'T USE SPACES IN FILE NAMES. Yes, I know, I avoided it even back when I was a Windows user (DOS didn't like it), after all it's easy to use an underscore instead of a space. But unfortunately I'm not alone, and I've seen people invent filenames to make your OS curl*. * To a p...

$ vi "Split Name 2" [add some text...] $ ls -l Split\ Name\ 2 -rw-rw-r-- 1 user user 13 Jun 1 12:46 Split Name 2 Yes, that works. Which is not surprising: I don't really see why it shouldn't work, I was just trying to rationalize the failure earlier on... Don't know why it failed, ...

Re: File/folder names containing spaces in terminal?

remember, it's case specific too. If a file uses a capital letter, don't use a small one, and vice versa. Yes, of course. I'm pretty sure of the spelling given I copy/paste the (very long) path. As I said in my edit above, for some reason it doesn't seem to work. Maybe, as I said above, because the...

Re: File/folder names containing spaces in terminal?

before a space, put a backslash, like this \ Sorry, didn't see your reply at first. Yes, that's what I thought remembered, but it doesn't work, neither Split\Name nor Split\ Name. What's the exact syntax? -- Edit: Uh-oh, crossposting. Apparently for some reason the backslash doesn't work here, the ...

File/folder names containing spaces in terminal? [solved]

I want to pass a link containing a space in its name (Windows share...) in a command line, and I don't remember how to tell the interpreter the space is not the end of the link, but part of a name. In other words, the link is something like "/foo/bar/Split Name/stuff", and the command line...

Re: Clonezilla, how to use

As richyrich said, put Clonezilla Live on a CD. It's the equivalent of the late Norton/Symantec Ghost in Windows: You burn a CD with it, boot on it, and then you can do anything to any disk/partition. Tedious? The problem is that while running, many modern OSes block access to specific files, to pre...

Wrong print resolution in Evince (Document Viewer)?

I have this very strange problem which, might be due to my inexperience with the finer workings of Linux. I'm on Mint 17.3 and using, through Samba , a Canon S900 printer attached on a Windows computer in the network . (Thats: Mint 17.3 -> Samba -> Windows -> Canon printer.) That printer happens to ...

Re: CVE-2016-10229 kernel bug fix for Mint 17.3?

Yes, I'm already considering going to 18.1, but everything works just fine now, so I'm in a "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" mood...
(Also, I do need this computer to get work done, so I'm hesitating to lose that day reinstalling and reconfiguring everything.)
