Re: Make mouse movement faster?

No update worth writing. It seems better, but that could as well be wishful thinking on my side... I admit I didn't spend much time experimenting since my last post, I'm in a very busy period preventing me from chasing after my mouse...

Re: Make mouse movement faster?

We all need to complain regarding lack of Linux support to every device manufacturer I think the main culprit here are actually the Linux devs (Xorg and Linux distributions, in our case Ubuntu/Mint), who decided that users don't really need anything but the most basic mouse settings. If we had an e...

Re: Make mouse movement faster?

resolution_percent="241" This parameter I haven't seen yet. I wonder where that comes from and if it isn't device-specific; It doesn't show in my xinput list-props. Apparently each device has its own list of parameters, so whatever driver is used for Logitech mouses might not have this pa...

Yes, well, I'll try your method since actually changing the base mouse speed is impossible. Thanks again for your help.

Re: Make mouse movement faster?

Device Accel Profile and Device Accel Velocity Scaling are the settings I tweak. Yes, but that uses acceleration. I did some search (here goes half a day of work...) and that is what I found: Mouse is managed by the X Server (Xorg) and has three main settings: - Threshold - The trigger level for ac...

Re: Make mouse movement faster?

you may be able to change the speed and velocity settings using xinput Thank you, I knew there had to be a way (obvious and easy to find as usual...)! Checked it, found everything as you said. A question remains: Which is the setting that I would want to change? All settings with "Accel" ...

Re: Make mouse movement faster?

you should be able to change acceleration to 4 or 8 or whatever with the dconf-editor Yes, but I don't want to use acceleration (cursor moving further if mouse is moved faster). I want the cursor to move faster, but always proportional to mouse movement distance ( not mouse movement speed). crap i ...

Re: Make mouse movement faster?

Thanks, that was fast!... xset m default Doesn't seem to change anything, yet my settings were far from default. Tried also with a sudo, just in case - nothing moves, mouse settings stay staunchly on my custom values. Oh well, not important I hope. you can also install dconf-editor Oh thanks,...

Make mouse movement faster?

My mouse works fine, but the cursor speed is too slow for me. Unfortunately I don't see how to make it any faster. There are two mouse settings in my Mint (17.3 Cinnamon): "Acceleration" and "Sensitivity". I personally hate the acceleration effect (move the mouse faster and curso...

Re: How to get out of a dead program? [solved]

Oops, just realized I didn't post the results of my test last night: I managed to get REISUB to work! So, for the record, all41 is right, the procedure for last resort shutdown is press and hold Ctrl and Alt, press and release PrtScn, then slowly enter REISUB (still holding Ctrl and Alt) . That work...

Re: How to get out of a dead program?

As far as I know, Ctrl+Alt+T is default key combination to open a terminal. Ah, that's good to know, thanks. I think I need to make myself a cheat sheet with all those shortcuts till I learn them. Failing that, you can enter a text-mode terminal with Ctrl+Alt+F1 through F6, and Ctrl+Alt+F7 will ret...

Re: How to get out of a dead program?

I hold down the left Ctrl, left Alt, and PrtScrn buttons continuously while pressing (slowly) the letters reisub, one at a time. On my systems the sequence is: press and hold Ctrl and Alt, press and release PrtScn, then slowly enter reisub (still holding Ctrl and Alt) The series of key variat...

Re: How to get out of a dead program?

in a terminal type: xkill The problem is to get to a terminal. When your whole screen is a frozen dead program, and there is no way to make it lose focus... You can also create panel launchers and keyboard shortcuts--mine is Ctrl+Alt+X Now that's a neat idea! That way I could call up a terminal to ...

How to get out of a dead program? [solved]

In Windows you have two possibilities if a full screen program dies on you: You can either ALT-TAB out, to get back to your desktop and do stuff, or you can directly hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and invoke the Task Manager to kill the offending program. I'm pretty sure Linux has something equivalent, but I can'...

Re: Wine and Virtualbox at the same time - possible?

For the record, and to help somebody who is in a similar situation, I solved my Virtualbox problem at last, after 3 years and 2 major Mint versions... The problem was: Virtualbox runs just fine, but as soon as I tried to start a virtual machine (any, even a new, empty one), Virtualbox crashed...

Not sure I got your point here. :?: Anyway, my own point is that the meaning of a program's name isn't that important. The actual name is at best ju...
