Re: igelle Linux

Yes i have used it live and installed it on my laptop. It does not install like a "normal" live CD linux OS. Live distros expand the squashfs onto the hard disk and run a heep of setup scripts but igelle esentially copies the CD to the hard disk, this makes a very fast install, sets up grub and a ba...

A quick cut down did not work, it is still 900+ MB.
I Would have to start from scratch again.
I have too much preparation work for mint 9 KDE and work on a replacement for apparmor called FBAC-LSM to do ATM.

Re: how do I make ktorrent the default torrent handler in firefo

well the file that contains the default info is: /etc/firefox-3.5/profile/mimeTypes.rdf it is an xml file. if you open a torrent file in ff with ktorrent (usr/bin/ktorrent) and tick the always use box it will put it in your home ff profile mimeTypes.rdf eg .mozilla/firefox/vheiydac.default/mimeTypes...

Re: ufw using the Terminal newbie question

this would be due to being in a live environment. casper creates the mint (default user) user and unpacks/activates the squashfs file (the live filesystem). I have not looked into how casper sets up the squashfs permissions but it makes sense that the mint user (uid 1000) owns it. if you have a big ...

Re: Does 8 kde rc1 + updates/upgrades = final version?

If you are on the RC just continue and apply updates.
If you are already using the RC and have applied all level 1-3 updates the you will be at KDE 4.3.5.
The final is only at KDE 4.3.4, so you will just have to apply all the KDE updates again.

Re: Linux Mint 8 "Helena" KDE released!

I do not think there are major changes/fixes from the RC.
so just upgrade. (once i have the mint updates in the repo).

only "big" change is a new usplash look.

Re: Does 8 kde rc1 + updates/upgrades = final version?

yes
there are a few mint updates.

The KDE 4.3.5 is not in the final iso but it has been in the ubuntu backport repo for a while.

It comes from the removed repository so activate it to check for any updates to it in the future.

32-bit or 64-bit KDE first?

The 64-bit architecture seems to be gaining popularity so time to vote on which should be developed first for Isadora.

The race was close but due to compatibility issues I will continue to build the 32bit version first.
Thanks to everyone who voted and posted.

Re: Mint 8 KDE Phonon

The KDE mint iso has KDE 4.3.4, but in the ubuntu backports repo there is KDE 4.3.5.
Amarok is at 2.2.1
phonon is at 4.3.1

if you enable all the repos included you may find a newer version of software.
otherwise it is time to look for a ppa that has newer versions of what you want.

Well what ever the question I would use a 64-bit OS if my CPU has the 64-bit extensions.
check out phronix.com.
Here is a great article on 32, 32-pae, 64 comparison.
