Re: LInux Mint KDE Edition Blog

Good idea Rob.
I now can see the point of a Blog, for mint stuff at least.
It would be a better place to do the stuff I'm using the forums for.

I have posted to the mint blog before, i think via wordpress...
Time to get a blog sorted.

Re: Mint KDE start menu

No intergrated mintMenu for Mint KDE.
you could try installing it and see how it goes, other people like lancealot menu plasmoid.

I have been meaning to make KDE4 front ends for the mint apps but have not found the time so far. One day though...

Re: Isadora KDE Development Progress Report

Well assuming i have not made a major mistake it would be 2-3 days for testing followed by 2-3 days for the iso to hit the mirrors before the release announcement.
Of course people find the iso before the release announcement.

Re: Isadora KDE Development Progress Report

All editions have an RC but are internally tested with some basic minty tests before released to the wild. The things we test for are: is it minty (mint theming) do all applications at least open does networking work does it install in english and another language properly can you burn media can you...

Re: Isadora KDE Development Progress Report

Everyone can really help when the RC comes out with feedback and bug reports. There are lots of apps and some times multiple of the same type, so are the defaults right etc. Once the RC is out no new apps will be added. KDE is at version 4.4.3 but it is from the kubuntu ppa repo. I would like to rel...

Re: Isadora KDE Development Progress Report

I do not think the RC will take a month, I hope by the end of the week.
All releases need to pass testing and Clem's approval.

Re: Dual booting

You need to put grub back in your MBR.
Basicly boot with your mint cd, open a terninal, mount your / partition and install grub to the MBR.
see this post on how to fix.

Re: KDE sound low on laptop

check the PCM level, it is usually the culprit.
in general max all the levels.
also using alsamixer (is a curses terminal GUI) in a terminal will also give you access to more sound level tools.

Re: Isadora KDE Development Progress Report

for plymouth you have to run:
sudo update-alternatives --config default.plymouth
choose mintkde one
sudo update-initrd -u

but ive seen some posts saying update-initrd may be a bit flaky for plymounth.

Re: Isadora KDE Development Progress Report

I guess it could have been the new javascript api scripts that killed your panel.
It has not got me yet...
previous updates have added an extra panel.

Re: Isadora KDE Development Progress Report

mint-configuration-kde well I could have made a typo when looking at startkde in the adjustments or the postinst script. looks like i might have deleted the first "/". I will check tonight. Mint KDE will not be too far behind. I have had less problems this time around. KDE 4.4 now can use a javascri...

Re: Isadora KDE Development Progress Report

Note to people installing mint KDE packages on a Gnome install. mint-configuration-kde deletes /etc/gdm. This was done in mint 8 KDE due to at least one file in /etc/gdm causing big problems. I will change this with an update and see if the gdm problem appears again. so if you have no gdm now instal...

Re: Isadora KDE Development Progress Report

I think the mint versions of plymouth (in the mint repos) may be causing your plymouth problems. I have not installed/updated to the mint versions of plymouth. there could be dependency problems. I have installed my laptop with kubuntu, updated and then updated to KDE 4.4.3. all is fine. then i inst...

Re: Isadora KDE Development Progress Report

KDE 4.4.3 is currently in the kubuntu ppa repo before it goes to the updates repo.
I would like to wait for it to be moved into the updates repo as there would be some extra fixes too.
Not so important for the RC but....
