Re: hesitation at startup

Thank you Cosmo. First, I can't believe that I did not know where to look for the Firefox link (in the menu under "Applications; Internet"). Next, the thing about opening with less than the full screen seems to apply to some things and not others. For example, my Yahoo Mail page opens in partial sta...

Re: hesitation at startup

Thank you Cosmo,

Sadly, I can't figure out how to "Open Firefox". If you could give me directions starting with something like, "Click on 'Menu' ", I would like to try it.

Truthfully, that is how little I know about this computer stuff.

Solved: hesitation at startup

I have been using Linux for a few years now (Mint 17 at the present) on a Dell Optiplex GX520 desktop. Just recently, when I first go to open a page like Google or my e-mail, the screen opens the page (or website?) starting in the upper right hand corner, and only using part of the screen. Sometimes...

Re: Keyboard compatabilty problem

Its been awhile since I've looked at this post, so I thought I should check it out. It turns out that "gold-finger" was right, and both of my keyboards with USB connectors work. By the way, I now have more computer stuff to work with. This is still an adventure for me!!

Thanks to all,

Re: You're gonna love this!!

Hello, About a year ago I asked for a way to donate to the LINUX effort without using Paypal, and since I couldn't seem to make things work back then, I had kind of forgotten about it. But, since I have been GREATLY satisfied with Linux, I thought about donations again today, found this old post, an...

Re: Cannot get Update Manager to work

Thank you all for your help and patience. I ran "sumo apt upgrade" and it took awhile to run. After that, I ran it again and it only printed a couple of lines, so I shut down the Terminal and tried upgrading again. This time it worked!!! as usual, I sincerely appreciate your help and patience, BoDill

Re: Cannot get Update Manager to work

Hello, The following is a print of the contents of the "Terminal" after running the commands given to me by WarfRat. After running this a couple of times, the only thing that has changed is that the upgrade screen runs a little longer before it reverts back (to it's original form). Among other thing...

Re: Cannot get Update Manager to work

To WarfRat, Thank you for your kind attention; I am at work right now so I'll try your suggestions tonight. In the meantime, I don't know what "cl" means in the sentence, "It looks like an upgrade will work from the cl." I went to a page of acronyms and it listed 167 meanings for "cl", and since I h...

Re: Cannot get Update Manager to work

To pjotr, Thank you for the kind attention. I did go to "item 7, left column" and tried the instructions. The first instruction was "Remove the old lists", and I'm not sure that I did that successfully. I could not erase the contents of the "Update Manager" screen. When I followed the remaining dire...

Re: Mint 17 Qiana to 17.1 Rebecca

To all, Thank you for your kind attention. Since I am quite happy with "Qiana MATE 17", I think I'll just stick with it. I will, however, read the material in all the links posted and let you know if anything earth shaking changes my mind. To phd21, In my second sentence, I said, "I am presently usi...

(Solved) Mint 17 Qiana to 17.1 Rebecca

Hello, Today, for the first time, I clicked on a dropdown with the selection to "Upgrade to 17.1 Rebecca", or something very similar to that. I am presently using Linux Mint 17 'Qiana' MATE 32bit, and am certainly not any sort of guru. Some of you have seen my posts in the past and are aware that I ...

Re: HP Scanjet 6200C/6250C

Habitual and all, HOLD IT!!! I finally got the scanner to work completely from scan through print. Apparently one of the inputs on the screen marked "xsane 0.998 scanjet....." made the difference. One setting I used was next to a Target looking emblem and said "VIEWER", and the other was TYPE: "JPEG...

Re: HP Scanjet 6200C/6250C

To habitual and all, OK, I found "xsane" and downloaded it, then on the "preview screen" I hit "Acquire Preview" and got an image (of the sample page that I was using for testing). In another window (with "xsane 0.998 Scanjet 62XOCS:004" at the top) I hit "Scan" and it stops partway through, If I si...

To Habitual again,

Sadly, I don't know how to "use xsane". Can you tell me how or where to type it, or find it, etc. etc,.

Thanks again,

BoDill
