Re: Linux Mint 8 issue.

It sounds like there may be some incompatibility between your netbook and Mint. If you want, you could try the Ubuntu Netbook Remix found here: http://www.ubuntu.com/GetUbuntu/download-netbook

Re: Helnea + Lxde

Two points. First, this isn't exactly a newbie question. Second is that LXDE isn't really supported by the Mint team. If you want a lightweigh desktop with Mint, you could try the XFCE version, which has significant community support on the forum and better integration. If you must use LXDE on top o...

This doesn't really seem like a question, but why would they be dropping it? Too bloated or have they found a suitable replacement?

Re: Question regarding new hard drive...

YES! Thank you for the link. I completely missed that tutorial in my searches! I took it's advice and added this to the fstab: /dev/sdb1 /media/Hitachi ext3 defaults, noatime 0 2 Where I have the Hitachi drive mount point in media. Works perfectly :) Thank you again. One last question regarding the ...

Re: Uninstall on Dual Boot Machines

It is as easy as that as long as Ubuntu is on a partitiion with no other important data. You will probably want to format the partition from Mint because Windows won't be able to detect the ext partition by default.

Re: Can't have 4 workspaces

I have the same problem when I try the 2x2 formation. You either have to do 1 row x 4 column or you can try turning off the "Desktop Cube" setting in Compiz and just use the "Desktop Wall" option. I don't think Compiz can create a cube of 2x2.

Re: cann't load file system

It looks like there may be a problem with mounting one of your disks. You could try booting to the CD and looking at your disk from there. Otherwise, you can try typing commands to start xorg if you are given a prompt in shell but I wouldn't recommend this.

Re: Ipod

I have tried almost every music manager and the only one I have found to work for my Ipod is Rhythmbox . If you want you can try to play around with configurations of Songbird and their ipod plug-in but that is more complicated. You can see this page for more help with different versions of the Ipod...

Re: How to "copy" custom themes?

Most of that data should be stored in your home directory. As long as the system you are transferring to is Gnome, there shouldn't be any problem.

Re: Linux Mint Branding for Xfce?

The community edition is the reason for the branding, otherwise it is just XFCE on a debian core. Try IceWM if you want something lightweight. Otherwise you can help the community on branding XFCE or you can go with something simple and just put a XFCE background with the Linux Mint logo. http://for...

Re: Xfce is really growing on me ... I'm getting hooked bigtime!

There is another interface called IceWM which is even more lightweight than XFCE if you are looking for better performance. I installed it with the Antix distro based on Mepis on my laptop (1.5 ghz celeron, 256 mb ram) and it runs quite well.

Re: Problem with EPSON RX425

There are three things you could try. The hardest but probably best option is to upgrade to Helena. The easier option, which you may have tried, is to upgrade cups. Lastly, you could try to run the printer from within Virtual Box. It worked for my Canon printer.
