Tomboy Notes

Hey, I have been using Mint 7 for a while but I think some of the software is starting to get buggy. I use to have Tomboy Notes on my taskbar but for some reason it disappeared a few weeks ago and won't run from Gnome Do. This isn't really a problem as I don't use the notes much but whenever I shutd...

Re: Gnome ppp Error

Are you sure the phone no. is correct? If it is correct, look at this page on configuring PPP in Ubuntu. The instructions should work the same in mint.

If you have more than about 512 GB of RAM you probably don't need a SWAP partition.

Re: Is the /windows directory necessary if dual booting?

I am not exactly sure how you got a ./windows directory. You have to install Linux on a separate partition because the file systems are different. Therefore you should have a partition you can mount from GParted which will have all of your windows files. This you can delete if you want more space bu...

Re: Stand-by not working

Thanks very much guys, this is useful. My suspend seems to have fixed itself but my hibernate should work now after downloading the package mentioned by plutus. As for the network cards, I will try and use your instructions if the suspend stops working again. For now its alright but I appreciate you...

Re: Stand-by not working

What you say may be true but it was working and it stopped working so one would assume it is actually the fault of Linux, not the machine.

Re: Unofficial Post Your Linux Mint Desktop Thread

My latest, I think I have finally found the conky to stick with, though it took me weeks to write. The wallpaper is made by me, as well as the GTK theme, Emerald theme, AWN, (though its nothing more than a taskbar with no background), and the icons are Hydroxygen. Click on images to see them in ful...

Re: Install problems on Compaq

Hmm, I went through some Ubuntu documentation on how to check the md5sum on the CD and they gave me some instructions. After completing them I am posting the results here: Anon@Anon-desktop /media/cdrom $ md5sum -c md5sum.txt | grep -vi 'OK$' md5sum: ./lmmenu.exe: Input/output error ./lmmenu.exe: FA...

Salaries of Linux jobs raise 50%

According to this article, the salaries of Linux system administrators has increased by 50% in recent times. What level of skill do you need to be considered a professional Linux administrator? and what was the original salary level? If it was only 20,000 per year, that isn't much of an increase. ht...

Re: Unable to play videos full screen

Well, because this intel xorg fix is in the ppas for ubuntu, and Mint 7 is based on Jaunty, Mint 8 will have far better intel gfx support because it will be based on ubuntu Karmic, where all the fixes are going, including Intel's choice to not use EXA for acceleration now, but UXA. So, there's two ...

Re: Skype or?

Hey, I was having problems with Skype hanging up and dropping calls. This is slightly different but may help anyway. You can install the HDA Intel Sound and it may help fix the problem. The instructions are here but I posted a few key points from the ariticle: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HdaIn...
