Re: mass renaming in terminal

It can be done with the find command: find <nameoffolder> * -execdir rename 's/\ /\_/g' "{}" \; This will scan any file or directory in the folder and replace all spaces with underscore. Of course, there are also other ways with xargs etc. that only seems to replace empty spaces with underscores an...

Re: mint to mint?

You seem to be following your own path so all I can do is offer a suggestion to use a credentals file to house your username and password. And you don't have to type in any passwords if you set this up in fstab. well I wasn't really deviating as this works: sudo mount -t cifs //Server/Share /media/...

Re: mint to mint?

well I thought I was in the clear but adding files changes permissions threw pyNeighborhood on said files. the way I found example: sudo mount -t cifs -o username=USERNAME,password=PASSWD //192.168.1.88/shares /mnt/share works but I would like a way for my password to still be encrypted instead of j...

Re: mass renaming in terminal

does that mean the script needs to be in the folder for every file to change and every file in subfolders to change? and what I want is more then just removing spaces, forget the script I posted before. since I have no head ache now this is kinda what I want to make into a script: 1.) replace words ...

mass renaming in terminal

I forgot how I renamed files recursively in the command line before and lost the script I made for doing so... so I have searched and found several solutions with several different opinions with varying results however what I want isn't as simple. one solution might work for me: with removing 'blank...

Re: mint to mint?

in some searching I found pyNeighborhood, it uses cifs, and it's in the repositories! I had to tweak some settings in pyNeighborhood and install something called mc (Midnight Commander) this way I'm not typing my password in the terminal for all who gaze to see! anyway I'm halfway excited and kinda ...

Re: mint to mint?

The "Server"'s name in the mount expression can be expressed several ways: host-name.local = if avahi is running on both machines. host-name = if nmbd is working on both machines ip-address = if none of the above are working on both machines. If any of this works to resolve the situation we can set...

mint to mint? [Solved]

I'm using one linux mint mate 17.2 machine as a file server only over my network and my other two computers (one windows 7 and the other linux mint mate 17.2) for other tasks. -so here is my problem: the two linux computers over the network seems to be picky on what can be played and what cannot wit...

Re: samba permissions?

that configuration is what I was going for, on the same note what would I set as the "create mask =" and "force directory =" for my mom's ( mum's ) or media share? probably unnecessary as files are not going to be written but I like being thorough.

samba permissions? [solved]

hello. it's me again :) I was shifting threw and reading about the samba.conf file and they really detail a lot, the only problem is I can't find an example I can use. here's the thing, I have a samba server for myself and really have no complaints as in if there is a mistake, like the impossible of...

I'm not sure if anyone is familiar with the game breach & clear but I thought it was interesting and thought I would give it a go. ran fine the first few times when I played the game and loved the game but after I tried something new in the terminal with steam now I just get a random static mess htt...

setting permissions with script help?

the story so far is that whenever I transfer files over samba permissions get all mixed up, so I have created a script on the computer with the share file that sets all the permissions accordingly. here it is so far: #!/bin/bash sudo chown -R user:group ~/filename && sudo chmod -R 775 ~/filename && ...

Re: samba share setup?

ok so what I want is to have my share file with settings as 766, or 776, as to not allow execute. I think what I'm trying to say is that I want to stop execution of code remotely over the network, if I'm going to use users with passwords I get this message when adding a samba user with the smbpasswd...

Re: samba share setup?

ok so what I want is specific users to have access to the share folder without having to use a password.

and why does samba need 777 for read and write access because 776 or 766 doesn't allow for any writing, I'm confused, does execute mean anyone with access can launch a program in the shared file?

Re: steam window problems on wine

the only fix I have for my problem is to completely reinstall, and it's a hassle just for steam in wine, and often times installing more then one steam prefix has the same effect, so it's not exactly fixed yet, maybe there is a file concerning steam that get's placed somewhere and I would have to de...

samba share setup?

I'm trying to set up my home network as described here on youtube, I know it's ubuntu but I want to do the same as she did in linux mint mate 17.1 basically the process removes chmod 777 and lets you use a group based permission system. I'm not sure what to do because I cannot really share files ove...
