Re: chmod and chown help?

niowluka wrote:You shouldn't remove x from a directory, as it makes its contents inaccessible. That's why your permissions look wonky.

Use a combination of find and chmod to remove x from files only instead, something like:

Code: Select all

find ~/filename -type f -exec chmod -x {} \;
thanks, this works! :D

Re: chmod and chown help?

I think the problem might be you have placed the " -R " argument in the wrong place see if this makes a difference thank you for the quick reply sadly nothing change with the change. I seem to think something about chmod running on folders changes the owner -> folder access, to "list, create/delete...

Re: Black background at login screen

the file is a .jpg had it working before I reformatted.
I pulled it off my secondary hard drive and that usually changes permissions so it might be that.

permissions are as fallows:

owner: me
access: read and write

group: me
access: none

others: blank
access: none

[solved]Black background at login screen

Hello fellow mint users, I'm not sure what I did but the background image is not showing at login.

using GTK login as other logins seem to have their own background and not use a custom one, and GTK seems a little more secure and less demanding.

-anyway thanks in advance

I think I have encountered an answer before and lost how to translate it into bash, it...

Re: clamav/clamscan questions: logging?

ok so after a few trials

--log=FILE needed to be --log=FILE.txt to display files scanned, I think that needs to put that into the man page.

[EDIT]

going to post my other question in the scripts & bash section if it's more of a scripting thing then clamscan.

Re: clamav/clamscan questions, logging?

after some reading.
putting

Code: Select all

> ~/foldername/Filename.txt
at the end logs everything that would be displayed but takes some of the fun out of watching the scan.

and it renamed the "foldername" in the middle of the scan to "untitled folder"

Re: playonlinux steam client graphic woes

seems setting a default amount of video memory in POL is the cause I think, after a fresh install of mint i cancelled instead of picking how much memory i have, seems to have fixed the issue.
