Re: Try this: firefox: downloads: open containing folder

I'm starting to think that this is just a Firefox issue. I installed PaleMoon, which is based off of the same Mozilla source code as Firefox. I tried using PaleMoon to download files in both Cinnamon and XFCE, using the same download folder that I originally was using in Firefox. It didn't experienc...

Re: Programs won't install

And I just realized that you said you need wireless connected. Do you have an internet connection at all? I'm not sure that software manager will do anything without an internet connection of some soft. To try to set up wireless (again, assuming you're using Cinnamon), go to Menu -> Preferences -> N...

Re: Programs won't install

Are you using the Cinnamon desktop? On my machine, I'm using Cinnamon. I go to menu -> Administration -> Software Manager. Is this what you are using to try to install applications? Once you get that open, installing software is pretty painless normally. Just search for the software you want and cli...

Re: Try this: firefox: downloads: open containing folder

all41- Ealier today I was trying to download the PaleMoon installer. That was when I first encountered the issue and started searching the forum to see if others had the issue. Once you started suggesting things, I was using the Arduino IDE as my test download. https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Donate ...

Re: Programs won't install

kemperhills -- now that it sounds like you've figured out where software manager is, there is a search box up in the top-right corner. type in "solitare" in that and it will give you multiple options. They all have slightly cryptic names, but they are there. You can do the same thing with other cate...

Re: Try this: firefox: downloads: open containing folder

Same result once I change the FF download folder. I created a temp directory in my HOME directory and changed FF to use that for downloads. downloaded a file and confirmed it was there via command line. When I click the FF "open folder" icon, the machine froze.

I also had issues with the Image Writer application that comes with Mint recently. I read somewhere that this is not uncommon. I installed UNetbootin and it worked as expected.

Re: Try this: firefox: downloads: open containing folder

sphyrth--

Just out of curiosity, was cinnamon your only desktop? I installed FF while logged into Cinnamon, and then later installed XFCE. FF works fine when logged into Cinnamon, but has this issue when I log into XFCE.

Re: Programs won't install

Setup.exe is most likely a MS Windows program. To install programs in Linux, you usually use the Software Manager application, or apt-get from the command line.

Re: Try this: firefox: downloads: open containing folder

I tried to create a new user and downloaded a file in FF while logged in as my new user. Same result. Downloaded the file, but when I click on the little folder icon, the machine freezes and I have to turn it off and boot it back up. If I go into the terminal and browse to the user's download folder...

Re: Try this: firefox: downloads: open containing folder

I have a very similar issue. I think (on my machine, at least) it has to do with the fact that I installed LM Cinnamon first, and then installed XFCE later. I was trying to download and open a file while logged into my XFCE desktop, and it froze three times in a row when I hit the folder icon to ope...

I thought it may have been fun to play with a little bit, just because I couldn't picture Android running on a laptop very well. But with that eula... maybe not.

Re: OSX and "Necessary Permissions"

Have you turned on File Sharing on your Mac (System Preferences -> Sharing -> check "File Sharing" checkbox)? It should default to giving your mac ID read/write permission. I tried doing this, and I was able to see my shared folder on the Mac from Mint file manager. When I click on the folder, I had...
