Re: fsck on reboot

Are you aware of any Mint plans to rectify it if Ubuntu can't be arsed?

Re: fsck on reboot

Removing quiet splash from the boot options didn't reveal anything useful. Both of the log files:

/var/log/fsck/checkfs
/var/log/fsck/checkroot

contain the following:

(Nothing has been logged yet.)

This will show you some interesting things like "Last checked:"
Last Checked 11/02/2015. However, the forcefsck file is being removed.

Re: Mint Update update keeps reappearing

Tried a full update and upgrade from the CLI and got the same result in the update window. No errors at all reported from apt-get.

Re: Chrome fails to download

Looks like I spoke too soon. After a couple of reboots the update came back. Checking the chrome version shows that it's back to v46 again. so, I ran these tests: 1) Remove chrome. 2) Install chrome 3) Version is 46. 1) Remove Chrome 2) Disable Google Additional Repo 3) v46 Chrome still in the list....

Re: fsck on reboot

Yeah, I was following the man page when I ran it. Probably just typed it out wrong on here. man tune2fs If you look in the logs, the kernel will have reported the boot activity. Which log and where? man tune2fs The default setting for GRUB is quiet splash so you won't see the check when it happens.....

Re: fsck on reboot

I had already tried the forcefsck file, but I just tried it again with a full shutdown and it was no different. I get the grub menu then a black screen for a few seconds and then the login gui appears. There's no feedback that a file system check has occurred.

fsck on reboot

I used:

tune2fs -C 2 -c 1 /dev/<boot partition>

to force a fsck on boot. However, it doesn't appear to do anything. Should I be expecting some sort of UI (textual or graphical) during the next boot to indicate the check in progress or is it completely silent?

Mint Update update keeps reappearing

I had a couple of updates appear that I had already installed. They were both updates for the Mint Update system. I installed them again and then a load of other updates appeared. I installed all of those and got "System up to date". A little while later I clicked the Refresh button in the Software ...

Re: Chrome fails to download

ok, I managed to work around the Chrome issue (without resorting to a manual install) by simply removing and reinstalling it through the package manager. There's still a problem with the update process though. Will be interesting to see if it re-surfaces when Google release the next update. The issu...

Re: Chrome fails to download

Another, possibly related oddity has occurred. I clicked the Refresh button in the Software Manager and the Chrome update disappeared and was replaced by the two Mint Update upgrades that I'd previously installed.

No, because that would sort of defeat the point of using the repos.

Chrome fails to download

I've just upgraded to 17.3 and the first that appears in the package manager is Google Chrome. I try to install it and get this: W: Failed to fetch http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/pool/main/g/google-chrome-stable/google-chrome-stable_47.0.2526.73-1_amd64.deb 404 Not Found [IP: 216.58.211.174 8...

Re: No network connection with a working network

Sorry for not coming back to this sooner. Removing the configuration from the interfaces file does indeed resolve the problem. I found an alternative which is to edit the /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf file and set the [ifupdown]manager property from "false" to "true". This allows the Netwo...

Re: No network connection with a working network

Interesting as they were there to start with.

So you're saying to just remove the lines from the interfaces files and then what? Just restart the network service or do I need to do something with the gui configuration?

Re: No network connection with a working network

Oh, and /etc/network/interfaces is as follows:

Code: Select all

# interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8)
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

No network connection with a working network

Firstly, this probably belongs in the Networking section but for some reason I don't have a "New Topic" button there, so it's getting posted where I do have that button (ie here)! Recently I've been playing with configuring bind and dhcp on a local server. During the experimentation process I someho...
