{Solved}Tips for migrating machine?
Hi folks! Firstly, wishing you all a very happy 2016. Secondly, I'd love some help migrating to a new machine. My old machine runs LM Cinnamon 17.2, and the new one runs LM Cinnamon 17.3 (stock iso). I'd like to get a list of programs I've got installed on this machine and install them on the new ma...

Re: .bash_logout file seems to not work
No idea, but to get useful help from someone who does, consider posting:
1. The output of (gets your system info)
2. The script itself (remember to use the Code tags)
3. A description of what you did, what happened, and what you expected to happen.
Good luck!

Re: Run VBA macros?
Hmm, thanks guys. Not quite what I wanted to hear.
I've tried FBLinux's suggestion, but it doesn't seem to help with excel macros. Nevermind, I'll just rewrite it in OOo's style instead.
Thanks for the help though

Run VBA macros?
Hey guys, I've introduced my folks to Mint Cinnamon edition. They're loving it, and I reckon they'd make the switch from Win 7 if I could find a way to make a certain excel spreadsheet work. It contains a macro written in VBA, and works as desired in a MS Excel environment. However, if I load it up ...

Re: Mint 17.2 Cinnamon drins battery much faster than Window
How about something that runs in the background? I use TLP. It doubled my battery life (in combination with dimming brightness). sudo apt-add-repository ppa:linrunner/tlp sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install tlp sudo tlp start Edit: If you're as thorough as you should be, you'll be wary of runni...

Re: rc.local in 17.2?
[guess] When rc.local runs, only root is ''logged in'', there's no Xserver so X requests have nowhere to go. [guess] If a command doesn't need root privilege, try putting it in your logged-in user's ~/.profile script. That makes sense, because I tried changing the script with an "&" a...

rc.local in 17.2?
Hi all, I've got a startup script located in the default rc.local (/etc/rc.local), set as executable. If I call it from the terminal, it works fine. But, it doesn't actually start on startup! #!/bin/sh -e # # rc.local # # This script is executed at the end of each multiuser runlevel. # Make sure tha...

Update live usb?
Hi folks, Small gripe here, but does anyone know how to update a live mint session? For instance, I've been booting a live LM 17.2 MATE and trying the old sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade and it returns an error about not being able to write to the loopback (or something like that...

Re: Fix borked Win partition
It isn't a problem to install W7 after Mint. You just have to reinstate the Grub in the MBR. Oh. Awesome. Thanks heaps. I reckon I'll just do that then... Unless the two laptops are nearly identical, after you copy one Win7 partition over the other, you're most likely going to end up with a Win7 th...

Fix borked Win partition
Hi folks, Here's my problem-of-the-week. I've recently scored a free "broken" laptop. It apparently had an OEM version of Win 7 which wouldn't boot. So, I shrank the Win 7 partition, installed Mint 17.2 Cinnamon, and it works beautifully. When I installed LM 17.2, it didn't detect an exist...

Xenopeek,
Why not simply install Pepper flash for Firefox? I've found a how-to here. Do you think it's a good idea for Firefox users?

JT

Re: Migrate home folder
OK, extundelete worked as advertised -- it pulled a bunch of stuff that had been deleted. It also installed simple, with apt-get. Unfortunately, the stuff I wanted to rescue was gone. Thanks for your help anyway, BlackVeils. I'll close the thread (maybe rename it to Why it's important to label thing...

Re: Migrate home folder
Oh dear. Dire news -- on a hunch, I cracked open my old fstab, located at /media/cameron/Mint17/etc/fstab. Unfortunately, it showed me exactly why my various key-word searches for stuff that should be in my old home partition didn't work: ... # /home was on /dev/sda7 during installation UUID=<sda7's...

Re: Migrate home folder
your home directory will be at /media/cameron/Mint17/home/cameron Thanks for confirming, BlackVeils. Unfortunately, I've got nothing under there. The folder's empty (not even the usual Documents, Downloads etc sub-folders). I'm thinking that's probably because I followed a how-to on making a separa...

Why it's important to label things correctly [solved]
Note: This thread was originally called, "Migrate home folder", but was renamed to reflect a lesson the OP learned the hard way... Hi folks, I recently updated to 17.2 and it borked my 17.1 install. No worries; I simply re-downloaded the 17.2 iso from windows and installed it to another p...
