Re: (SOLVED ) Libre office 6.4.2 upgrade broke LO

It should be fine to accept - I updated from it yesterday - I think it's the PPA maintainers fixing the packaging issue that caused the problem in the first place.

#! /bin/sh
Your problem is you are using the default shell (dash) and read -n4 will return as an illegal option in that shell. read is a shell builtin so has different syntax in different shells.

Your script as written works fine with the #!/bin/bash shebang.

Re: Sound problem with R11 Xfce Mint Chromebook

Hi, I recently converted my R11 to Mint (Cinnamon). To get sound I cherry-picked the config files from https://github.com/GalliumOS/galliumos-braswell/tree/master/usr/share and added them to the system and then updated to mainline kernel 5.4.x For ease of updating to a mainline gernel you can use gm...

Re: Xsession strings

Hi.

See - https://linuxmint-translation-guide.rea ... en/latest/

The app would be slick-greeter and the only localised string is the (Standard) - it's normally (Default) in English.

Re: LM 19.3 freezes unexpectedly

There's no sign of a Nvidia driver loaded in your inxi output, or the intel integrated graphics one either for that matter :?:
Your using software rendering and the fallback framebuffer driver.

Re: Start menu button/icon disappeared

OK last thing to try - this resets all cinnamon settings to default. Log out and back in immediately after running this.

Code: Select all

dconf reset -f /org/cinnamon/

Re: VLC in built in live distro

Please enlighten me. Thanks For legal reasons -VLC includes a library for dvd playback that is a bit dubious to distribute in some jurisdictions. https://www.videolan.org/legal.html Since Mint 18 the main ISO also serves as the OEM installer (prior to 18 there were separate OEM ISOs) It's OEMs that...

Re: How to edit context menu in Linux Mint 19.1 MATE?

I am slightly confused because I have caja but there is also a thing listed as file manager. I know caja is the nautilus fork, but how would i search to see if I have thunar (doubt it) or the other one? If I do locate thunar or locate nemo from terminal I get a long list of results but most appear ...

Re: Corresponding folder on Linux Mint.

Hi, the location to drop the database should be ~/.local/share/data/qBittorrent/GeoIP/

~ is shorthand for your user's home directory e.g. on my machine the full path would be /home/steve/.local/share/data/qBittorrent/GeoIP/

Re: How to edit context menu in Linux Mint 19.1 MATE?

I know third party apps can do this, but I believe it is still a glaringly missing feature in mint which is my all time favorite OS. There's no need for third party apps. All the Mint File managers support adding entries to the context menu. Search the net for Thunar actions (native GUI) , Caja act...

Re: Start menu button/icon disappeared

Ok so we know it's something in you main user's config causing the issue. So try 1) Remove all content in ~/.local/share/applications 2) Remove all content in ~/.config/menus 3) Right click the panel that supposed to contain the menu > Applets > Remove the menu applet. 4) Delete ~/.cinnamon/configs/...

OK thanks. There's nothing in the applet list that would cause issues. I don't have a multi-monitor setup.

Out of interest what's your inxi -Gxxxz output?

Here we go:

Code: Select all

  OpenGL: renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 9.0 128 bits) v: 3.3 Mesa 19.2.8
You are running in software rendering mode. Log out, on the login screen make sure you are logging in to the default Cinnamon session and not the software rendering session.

Re: VLC in built in live distro

None of the current ISO's have VLC pre-installed in the Live Session.

It can be installed in a few seconds in any Live Session via apt update; apt install vlc in a terminal or (except 19.3) via the Install Multi Media Codecs menu item from the Live Session menu.
