Re: Ownership of files

I'm not sure why you would want to cripple Nemo's ability to launch genuine scripts?

Anyhow to remove the executable flag in all files in a folder open a terminal and

cd path/to/folder

find . -type f -exec chmod -x {} \;

Re: Workspace is fun

It looks like you are trying to run the script line by line in a terminal? That won't work properly. You need to save it as a file in ~/bin (create the folder if you haven't got one) and make it executable. You can then call it via the terminal using its file name, or make a launcher shortcut to it....

Re: CPU temperature indicator - question

The Applet had a major revamp a couple of weeks ago which may have introduced new bugs. Report the issue here.. https://github.com/linuxmint/cinnamon-spices-applets/issues Edit to add. It might be helpful from a troubleshooting point of view and assuming you haven't updated the applets on your other...

Re: Custom BBCodes on the forum

No worries. After posting I went on a quick hunt for an easy way to convert webm (from Cinnamon's screen recorder) to animated gif and found a few options. That was my main use case - being able to post short animated screenshots as demonstrators.

Re: Scrollbars smaller and smaller

The theme versions are not related to your kernel version. In Mint X's gtk-widgets.css look for this section and edit -GtkRange-slider-width: 10; & -GtkRange-slider-width: 5px; . The first is the width when hovering, the second is the default unhovered width. Not every theme will look the same - man...

Re: Custom BBCodes on the forum

Is there BB for embedded video that could be enabled?

Also is there any specialised code BB which scans for common language types and applies colour formatting (e.g to distinguish comments from code)?

Re: Preferred applications list missing installed apps

So nobody knows the answer to the actual question because I would like to know how to edit the list of preferred applications as well. Maybe if I could remove the video player completely from the list mint would open music files with the application I selected. Mint ignores me even if I choose soft...

Re: Workspace is fun

Here's a better example with some comments. Internally the system starts counting workspaces from 0 - so your default workspace is 0, the second is 1, the third is 2 etc.... This script opens Chrome and moves it to workspace 1, System Monitor and moves it to workspace 2, and Update manager and moves...

Re: Calendar applet gets pushed out of panel when lots of windows are open

It might be a theme issue - the window-list boxes normally shrink when they run out of space, but the theme might set a minimum width for them. What theme are you using?

Moving the window list to the middle section of the panel in panel edit mode might help.

Re: Workspace is fun

It is automatic. I just open all the launchers at once and they are automatically on workspace one. Then I drag them to individual workspaces. Takes only a few seconds. Semi automatic. You can use the script snippet in my post to skip the dragging step. Click and watch your workspaces fill up.

Re: [Security] How does the security of a default install of Mint compare to Ubuntu and Debian? Why choose Mint over Ubu

Have you tried to install Linux Mint recently? Right on the install screen, you can opt in to install a bunch of nonfree components. I did not opt in to install the codecs at the install screen, but when I wanted to play a video file, Mint offered me and downloaded some codecs. Frankly, I didn't ch...

Re: Problems Installing Libre Office

I have found that the following works as a full LO uninstall: sudo apt-get remove --purge libreoffice* This will have unintended consequences. It removes libreoffice-style-mint which at least in Mint 18.3 Cinnamon has cross dependencies with mint-artwork-gnome , mint-meta-cinnamon & mint-themes . Y...

Re: [Solved] Linux 4.16 update won't install

It's not standard for the OS to give pop-ups wanting you to install a new kernel. Have you installed ukuu at any point? That has an irritating notification. The kernels it offers are from ubuntu mainline - should be used for testing purposes or very new hardware not supported by standard kernel rele...

CD's are dead.

Vinyl for quality, collectability and 'ownership', streaming for convenience.

Re: Preferred applications list missing installed apps

How did you install VLC? I've got the regular VLC from the repos and it is top of the suggested list for DVDs. I installed Handbrake via PPA and that is also in the suggested list for DVDs If I look at the Camera option, VLC is not suggested but is in the 'Other Application' dropdown. If it's not ap...
