new HDMI av receivers and HDMI audio support

My HDTV setup is in danger as my old Denen digital receiver is starting to crap out. Currently I connect my ASUS mb with AMD-A86600 to the LCD HD TV via HDMI (with sound) and get sound back to my old home theatre setup via optical cable from the TV to the receiver. Cool thing is it doesn't matter if...

Re: What kernel are you using?

I've got several LM machines running 3.16.x with various desktop managers for myself and friends/family. works pretty good so far. But how about 3.19.x for LM17 on a newer hardware setup? Its not on the kernel list for LM update manager so I'll ask if anybody else done that for LM? Why? just because...

Re: Update or reinstall kernel?

Anyone running even newer kernels like 3.19.x that aren't on the cinnimon update manager? Latest x.x.3 claims better radion graphics support among other things. I have a machine that might be appropriate for. I have 3.16.33 on all my home computers now except an old pentium-M

Re: bittorrent

According to Wikipedia and BitTorrent's own website, there is no version for Linux. There's a version for Linux on Softpedia , but it says that it is "designed for older Linux distributions", which suggests it's old and deprecated. This is probably why it's not working. Linux Mint 17.1 is not an "o...

Re: İnstalling BLUEMAN

By own mind, bluetooth does not work well in cinnamon, mate or xfce, only works well in KDE. I don't know why. Actually, I have BT working quite easily on Cinnimon (cinimon bluetooth) and KDE (bluedevil + pulseaudio) on several machines I have for myself and installed for others. I think it works g...

Re: 'Stylish' the Firefox addon - why is this installed?

I had become concerned about an add-on or extension appearing without my intention and there not being an obvious way to remove it from the addon tab. That is very creepy to me. I don't like it. I want more control over such things on principle even if some people think its a 'cool' addon. We have a...

Re: 17.1 and Bluetooth

To answer part of the question, I do indeed have BT working in LM17.1 KDE running kernels 3.16.0-x where x=25,29,30. It was not quite as plugnplay as cinnamon but not hard. I think it depends on your BT hardware and device you are trying to pair with. I am using a standard generic USB-CSR 4.0 BT don...

Re: Dropbox

Which windows and file manager are you using? Did you first create an account with dropbox.com and THEN install it from there? Just one more way. Did you do anything to configure your db program to sync with any account? A tad more clarity, what do you mean it just sits there? If actually installed ...

Re: System crashes after wake up

I'm getting that too. LM17.1 KDE kernel 3.16.0-28 on a minimilist (Acer Aspire netbook 512RAM, flash drive that was rescued from a dumb attempt at putting win7 over XP on this old thing -I love to give LM kudos for that) I think the relevent detail here is that I've usually got a couple of apps runn...

Re: Volume control applet keeps popping up

I did try setting the brightness manually but didn't stop the popup. I think Richyrich's comment was relevent for me. WITH power management control ON, when my touchpad edge scrolling feature was inadvertently activated by my missed finger posiition, the popup was being triggered.

Evolve OS, another new distro

Anyone playing with the new Evolve OS? http://www.techrepublic.com/article/why-evolve-os-could-win-you-over-to-linux-and-me-away-from-ubuntu/ This article claims it might be the new easy entry, no learning curve desktop distro and claiming it will be light on hardware needs. Suposedly its being made...

Re: KDE SC 4.13.12 in Rebecca?

Interesting. I installed LM17.1 KDE as a clean install from the live USB iso and yet I too show "KDE SC 4.13.2" . I intentionally upgraded the kernel to 3.16.0 as that was working well on most of my other machines and still is. So the question is for me, does Kinfocenter report correctly or is this ...

Re: Volume control applet keeps popping up

Are you sure its the volume control popping up? I have/Had a similar issue but related it to a power management. I turned off power management on my laptop via the power applet. But I also turned off 'edge' scrolling on my touchpad for other reasons and so far am not having that random popup bar wit...

Re: Mint 17.1 and Kodi crashes

Kodi/XBMC can be buggy. You do have to play with program settings a bit to get best results for your system. Was frustrating at times for me. Also know that some add-ons can add complications and freeze the program and system if misconfigured. Worse, if you go back to an older version of Kodo/XBMC l...

Re: AMD A8-7600 APU Driver

I have a system with an AMD A8-6600 APU with an inegrated Radeon HD grpahpics for my TV via HDMI. I do find I like having the added features of the AMD Catalyst drivers over the LM/Ubuntu kernel graphics drivers that are auto installed. It gives me a bit more control and options. Get them off the AM...

Re: Comparing Linux Mint 17 Editions - Cinnamon vs. Mate vs.

I really like Cinnamon, KDE, XFCE I haven't tried MATE. I think I prefer Cinnamon on decent hardware. For bluetooth, XFCE is tricky but it sure kicks butt on older hardware. Just had to give LM13 XFCE a go to rescue a 2003 pentium M non PAE CPU laptop, am loving it for that machine. I'm playing with...

Re: Help moving from XP to Mint

Hi, with that machine you probably don't need this but just in case: I just encountered a laptop with a non PAE CPU -pentium M I think, and nothing in the bios to enable it so LM17 kernel wouldn't run even in 'compatibility' mode. I found here that LM13 stable (I used XFCE) was the recommended choic...

Re: [solved] Dolphin cannot search "invalid protocol"

Yup. Installing the full baloo app does get rid of the 'protocol' error but still doesn't add real search functionality to Dolphin. No error but no search. I wouldn't exactly call that "Solved". Kfind works fine though.

How about power control for the monitor, do you have some settings arranged to shutdown that device.. --the exact popup msg is probably important (as to what it is: refers to ?? ) Possibly laptop power control/tools is in play..(hibernate/sleep mode etc..) I figure but thats what I'm asking. The bo...

[solved] Noob question: What is this % popup thing?

Playing with KDE LM17.1 on a light netbook. kenel 3.16.0-28. I keep getting a little popup showing a monitor icon and some variable number%. It seems to countdown fairly quickly but doesn't correlate with battery power ramaining or anything obviouse to me. When I 'do something' on the screen it rese...
