Re: User lost

If you are booting from a live session (some media with an LM ISO) rather than a real install, yes you start over everytime. So did you actually install linux Mint (which version) in another partition? If so, did you remember to remove the live boot media so you don't keep booting from it?

Re: Should I Change My Linux Kernel?

Some kernels are LTS, some are HWE (info in link). Kernel family 4.15 is LTS (supported till April 2023), so if it works for you, stick with that . . . just update to the latest 4.15 available to get security updates. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/RollingLTSEnablementStack Translation, some kernel...

Re: installed 19.1

You didn't correct and post the inxi info but did post the graphics twice. But OK so you have an integrated Motherboard graphics controller not a graphics card or APU (CPU with graphics which do tend to work just fine). Your motherboard isn't coming up. Its gotta be the hardware vs kernel. And you a...

Hang on....I just noticed in your output: Host: mint Kernel: 4.15.0-20-generic i686 bits: 32 compiler: gcc v: 7.3.0 But you are running a pentium 64bit CPU occording to the results (also did a web check of your CPU) http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Pentium_Dual-Core/Intel-Pentium%20Dual-Core%20E6700%20...

What are you trying to do? Go to a web site (which?), download an ISO?, already have an ISO but want to quality check it?

Re: harddisk spins up after opnening nemo

That kernel has not been maintained or supported since spring 2018. What LM version and desktop are you running? When trying to update over an old unsupported kernel, you may have troubles. Any reason not to fresh install LM 19.1? I sure find it slick with cinnimon or MATE Edited to add, you are now...

Re: user account deleted by accident.

I have never encountered an application like that on Mint and it's odd that any application - perhaps with the exception of bleachbit - would wipe your user account. The only thing I can suggest is to boot the installation media, mount your linux partition and have a look. If there's nothing there ...

Its a scam. Don't bother with it. FF does not eat up memory. Just clean the cache once in a while.

Re: New Computer

Given the hardware listed above, LM will kick ass on all of those. Win10 will only run on reasonably recent hardware. As long as you can get into BIOS and turn off secure boot. Looks to me like those Motherboards are ok. But ask at the store if you can run a test USB live session (as mentioned above...

Re: New Computer

If Windows 10 is installed, make sure Fast Start is turned off in Windows, then connect the USB drive, reboot and access the UEFI. From there it should just be a matter of setting the UEFI boot order to boot from the Live/Installer USB drive, reboot and watch the installer come up. At worst, it may...

Re: Yet another "How do I mount..." question

For a new user both utilities are useful. If somebody ask how to perform disk management, I refer them the disks utility, because it is more useful for a new user. Most newer users are from the Windows or MAC world, and they are accustom to using a graphical user interface. Personally, I use the fd...

Re: MInt and AMD: The desktop freezes almost within 15 seconds

The desktop freezes almost within 15 seconds after boot up in the latest Kernel 5.0. The mouse cursor can be moved around but can't click into anywhere. Kernel 5.0 is NOT the latest kernel and is not supported here anyway. Upstream stable is on 5.1.5 but is still not supported here, consider it exp...

Re: trouble with hardwaredriver

Did you install it? Does your computer work with it booted? Linux Mint and most other Linux flavours handle most of the hardware via the kernel and some additional utilities without needing additional drivers in the old windows sense. Sometimes one does need to (or just prefer to) download and insta...

Re: Booting time

I don't think its that bad of a question. Maybe it would have been better to ask, "compared to windos10 or mac OS does LM tend to take longer or shorter time?". Of course the answer would be "depends".

Re: Help! Printer Errors!

Hello Jasper, Looks like you are using LM19.x? You can use the command in terminal cat /etc/os-release . I assume you will be using the standard kernel for that OS version but you can type uname -r . Make sure you are all up to date. First off, make sure your printer works while connecting directly ...
