Re: Can't change Workspace names in LM17.3 Cinnamon

Do you speak about 2 systems dualobooted (one with Cinnamon, one with Mate) or is this a system with 2 DEs inside? A single dual-booted system (Windows Vista + Linux Mint 17.3), Mint has two desktop environments installed - MATE and Cinnamon. (I've never quite been able to decide whether MATE has e...

[SOLVED - sortof] Can't change Workspace names in LM17.3 Cinnamon

Hi, For some reason I've found that I'm no longer able to change the workspace names on my account in Mint 17.3 Cinnamon - whenever I overtype the name to changes it the updates don't save and the name reverts to the original. I think it must be something to do with a duff Cinnamon config file on my...

Re: LinuxMint 18 thoughts and discussion...

The codecs just require ticking a box during install. Just means the developers don't have to test multiple iso's, but for the users its still easy to install them. That's fair enough when you're doing an actual install, where it's a one-off task - but what about when you're simply running the Live...

Re: Workspaces

I tend to use 4 workspaces, more is confusing, but so is less because they get cluttered. Now mint has this 'fancy' action going when I press ctrl+alt+up arrow and down arrow , showing me workspaces or windows on the workspace.... It does ?!? <tries it> Cool! I didn't know that! Thanks! :mr...

Re: Linux Mint(17.1) only my wifi network is not visible.

Try if it helps when you change the channel to 1, 6 or 11. Reason: in some countries, among which the USA, channels above 11 are forbidden. This might lead driver developers to disregard the potential presence of those higher channels. Out of those three, select the channel that's optimal for you, ...

Re: Linux Mint(17.1) only my wifi network is not visible.

My wife is experiencing a similar problem with Mint 17.3 Rosa on her Dell Inspiron 5520 - after many months of rock-solid connections, from yesterday the laptop Wifi can detect every wifi router in the neighbourhood except the one in the house - a D-LINK DIR-600 - less than a metre from the machine....

Re: How to install a Wacom Tablet

What kind of Wacom are you wanting to use? Any specific software you want to use with it?

I'm using a Wacom Bamboo Pen table (CTL-460) and it works with Linux Mint "out of the box", i.e. I just plugged it in and it works. I use the tablet both with GIMP and Krita.

Re: Uses for old computers?

That depends on how you heat your house: if your heating works on electricity, then running old desktops provides useful heat just like any other electric heater, and it can do stuff as an extra  "If you have to use central heating in winter, you're not running enough computers." Ge...

Re: Swap partition problems after removing encrypted /home

Make a swapfile. That would work, or delete the existing swap partition and recreate it. Fixed it - I booted off a Live DVD, then ran Gparted which identified that the swap partition had errors. I then selected to reformat the swap partition at /dev/sda8 to "linux-swap" format. After formatting, ...

[SOLVED] Swap partition probs after deleted encrypted /home

Greetings, I'm having problems with my 8GB /swap partition no longer being available for use - I first became aware of it when my desktop conky started reporting "No swap" instead of "X% used". swapon -s confirms the absence of swap: Filename Type Size Used Priority Originally I installed Mint 17 wi...

Re: Menu applet is broken

Okay, I managed to fix this through a) creating a temp user account, b) renaming the /home/<user>/.config folder to . oldconfig , c) copying (as root) the /home/tempuser/.config folder to /home/<user>/ , d) then updating the permissions on /home/<user>/.config using sudo chown -R <user>:<user> .conf...

Re: Menu applet is broken

My wife is having the same problem in Mint 17.2 Cinnamon - the only thing that works as of today in the menu applet is the Update Manager and right-clicking to get About / Configure / Remove this applet . I have slightly changed the command, try again. ll ~/.cinnamon/configs/menu@cinnamon.org ~/.con...

Re: Your opinions on Windows 10 so far..

My wife tried upgrading Win7 on her laptop to Win10 the other week - but after six failed attempts she eventually determined that her three-year-old Dell Inspiron 5520 was not and never will be (thanks, Dell :x ) Win10 compatible. It runs Mint 17.2 Cinnamon in dual-boot just fine though! :-) She nee...

Re: Intermittent password prompt when browsing encrypted /ho

With a confirmed-good plain-text copy in /home/shared, I would make a new user and copy, again, the files out of /home/shared into /home/newuser, leaving the old encrypted version and the plain-text version behind...you're not exactly short of space at the moment. Get the new user 100% working and ...

Re: Is it possible to encrypt my computer after installing

If all you need is an encrypted home , that can be patched on quite easily after installation with the adduser or ecryptfs-setup-private commands. Is it possible to easily "undo" encrypting a /home partition without doing reinstall? I've been experiencing increasingly-frequent problems with file ma...
