Re: "In the old days we...."

I remember when magazines printed out BASIC programs for you to try at home. I remember the enormous BYTE magazine which I got each month for the Jerry Pournelle column where he wrote about computers at Chaos Manor. I used to love Jerry's column. It was usually the first thing I'd read when I got m...

Using laptop camera to take a photo. <Solved>

I know my lappy camera works in Linux as I have successfully participated in zoom meetings in the past. However, is there a method to convince my camera to take a photo without using a screenshot from a zoom session? I need to take a "selfie" for an application and, rather than stuff aroun...

Re: A Linux Compatible Tuner for Harley-Davidsons

It might work in WINE or Virtualbox. However, I understand your problem. Have you got a spare machine that you could load Wingewoes onto for just that purpose?

Re: Samba, Mint 20 and file sharing

I shoud add that it would be nice if I could convince a Wingewoes laptop to talk to it, too. Sadly, I need that, to talk to a bit of fruit that I inherited from my wife and my bluetooth headset on my motorbike.

Samba, Mint 20 and file sharing <SOLVED>

I thought that I had enough knowledge to re-instate file sharing after I upgraded my machines to Mint 20 - more fool me! I keep getting a "Unable to mount location Failed to retrieve share list from server: Invalid argument" I have ensured that the drives I want to share are mounted and th...

Install Linux blowing everything else away That way if the machine has a hardware issue down the road, you might be able to ...

Re: Management Information Systems Degree: Is it useful?

MY take is slightly different. Yes, a degree will be useful, but, a good work ethic and willingness to learn will put you ahead of the pack in the real world. MY eldest started by doing two IT degrees at the same time, he gave up in his third year because he was bored. He also worked part time whils...

Re: How Tech Addiction Helps Degrade Society

I used to ride a pushie to work every day. Now I ride a motor bike whenever I feel like it. I still own a pushie, but have not ridden it as much as I could have. I've always been fairly fit, but I would not call myself a "fitness junkie".
