Re: Question for Americans

"We see things not as they are but as we are." I agree totally. I've not been to Russia, but have been to China, and the people that I met there are as friendly and helpful as those I know in my own community in Australia. There are good and bad in every society. I take everyone as I find...

Re: Internet for All, a good or bad thing ?

Depends upon what you call "free". If you are looking at an internet service that costs nothing, that is one thing. If you are looking at freely available information. There are some things that should be regulated, and even censored! I'd hope that all and sundry would be against freely av...

Re: Upgrading RAM

Sadly you may need to say goodbye to your old kit given the issues that you have identified. I've been lucky in that I've been able to "mix and match" RAM in my computers, however.... To qualify that statement. NONE of my machines are mission critical NONE of my machines are gaming machine...

Re: Error installing LibreOffice Base

It does seem strange that Base won't work "out of the box", so to speak, as it comes with every version of LibreOffice that comes with every version of Linux that I've had. By now I'd have blown everything away and started again with a bare version of Linux. Made sure that Base was workin...

(Solved - moderators can delete this message it was my hardware NOT a Mint issue.) Could it possibly be as simple as a setting within the program you are trying to run? I am unfamiliar with that program, so cannot be more specific.

Re: Error installing LibreOffice Base

Am I correct in assuming that you ONLY want Base and NOT the rest of the Libre Office suite? It does seem strange that Base won't work "out of the box", so to speak, as it comes with every version of LibreOffice that comes with every version of Linux that I've had. By now I'd have blown ev...

Re: Sounds that SOOTH me...

The sound of silence. Dead silence would drive me crazy... I would hear only the ringing in my ears (Tinnitus sufferer). I do like the sound of rain though. As do I, hence, I'd love the "sounds of silence" @ Carum Carvi I know exactly to which you refer, In my defence, I was actually thin...

Re: "Image For Linux"

Sorry mmm, it did seem that your OP has caused confusion. Sadly, we see more than our share of spambots who post meaningless topics to "test the waters". Some are getting quite sophisticated, hence my suspicion. Can you please advise exactly how much data was on that 500gb drive. I still f...

Re: "Image For Linux"

If you aren't willing to test your hypothesis, I'm thinking that you are trying to sell something. You said a backup of 500Gb reduced down to 3.4Gb until you can verify that this is FACT and have restored said image all we can presume is that you are guessing at best, or worse, a spambot.

Re: How often do you change user password

As has already been stated, it really depends upon how paranoid you are. The only time I ever change a password is a) if the site demands it, b) if I've forgotten it or c) if I find that someone has it. 1 - occurs occasionally, 2 - more often, 3 - so far, never!
